Hello
im hoping someone can help!
I am at a private dentist (no nhs place) where I’ve previously been happy. I had a cracked filling a couple of weeks ago and at the weekend had root canal.

Yesterday the ‘cap’ fell off so I went back to day to have it fixed. It has a cap rather than a crown. I’m now on anti biotics as it is infected.

However, I really wasn’t expecting the result to look like this? It’s like someone has stuck chewing gum there?

This cost £600.

before I go back and say I’m not happy I just want to check to see if this is what it’s meant to look like?

thank you!

That's a temporary filling. Has the root canal been finished? Usually takes at least two visits for a molar. Then the tooth needs to be prepped (shaped with a drill) for a crown, then an impression or scan is taken so the crown can be made in a lab. If you're on antibiotics presumably you need to finish the course before the root canal can be completed.

That’s not the end result!!

NikkiNokkiNooNah · 13/11/2023 20:31

Is it a temporary cap? While they make a bespoke one?

Happyharry2003 · 13/11/2023 20:32

I thought this is odd.
i had the root canal on Saturday. The top cap fell off yesterday.
Today I went back as it was agony and was told it had infection and then they put this on and said it would be fine and that’s that?!

Don't worry they will contact you soon to have the proper crown done, thats a temporary one. Maybe they need to wait until the infection is definitely gone.
Call them in a few weeks if you haven't heard.

It's a temporary. If the root canal is infected then it's not a completed root canal.

CarPour · 13/11/2023 20:38

Also I would assume the root canal cost £600 not the crown/cap. A root canal is a procedure in the roots you can't see.

A cap is just another word for a crown. A crown/cap take time to make so you wouldn't have had a crown placed on Saturday. What was said to you on Saturday?

Happyharry2003 · 13/11/2023 20:43

Thanks everyone. The root canal was def completed - the anti biotics are for the infection surrounding the tooth. Apparently one in 20 end up like that or something. No nothing was said on Saturday about a crown. I shall email them with photos tomorrow and ask what they’ve done/what will happen next. If I have to have a crown then so be it - I hadn’t been aware it would be extra but if it is then I have no choice. Just wish I’d gone for the extraction!!
