To be annoyed my hair highlights have gone orange after 2 weeks?

I naturally have light brown/dark blonde hair, and 2 weeks ago I had highlights for the first time. The hairdresser did warn me that my hair naturally has a lot of warmth to it, but I thought that highlights would lift some of that out? My hair looks completely orange in the light, and there's quite an obvious line where my natural roots are a cooler toned gold vs the orange/brassy highlights.

I've been using the expensive colour shampoo and conditioner recommended, and have used the purple shampoo a few days ago too but it hasn't really helped.

I'm not annoyed at the hair stylist, I just feel frustrated with how bad it looks, I thought having light brown hair and wanting a few blonde highlights was pretty simple and straight forward as it's not a huge colour change.

I spent £240 on my hair, and I already want to go back to get it fixed

Purple shampoo is to tone out yellow hues, if you have orange hues you want blue shampoo.

If you look at a colour wheel, to neutralise a colour you use the colour directly opposite.

If your hair is orange then you need blue shampoo, purple neutralises yellow tones, i assume yours is more gingery?

when i had my balayage done by a hair dresser friend she gave me advice to use loreal dia light with a developer after a couple of weeks and then repeat every 6-8 weeks as no matter what you do if you have warmth in your hair and you have lifted it will naturally have that orangey tone.

the dialight has definitely helped my hair and now my balaye is more caramel than orangey brown

This happened to me , I called the stylist who made me another appointment and fixed it FOC .
It's really worth the call as your hair shouldn't go yellow/ orange so soon , maybe it just needs a different toner using .

You need brass off blue shampoo and mask.

Omg £240 fucking hell. Go back!

Birdcar · 13/11/2023 20:24

Go back to the hairdresser. They'll probably put a toner on it.

dementedpixie · 13/11/2023 20:25

Sounds like they never left the bleach on long enough to take the orange out of your hair. Maybe ask if you need some redone

I used the little bottles of Jerome russell toner when I first had my highlights done, probably once in every three washes, and it took all the brassiness out. Haven't had to do it since the summer! I have very dark hair (almost black!) and my highlights look ash to light blonde now, no yellow or orange tones!

glutenglutton · 13/11/2023 21:55

The roots have gone orange, and the ends yellow. I did ask the hairdresser about blue shampoo, and she said to use purple not blue.

Blue neutralises orange and purple neutralises yellow. Orange means not enough lift in my opinion. How long were the foils left on?

I think they were left on for 45 minutes or so? I remember the hairdresser saying that my hair lifted really well

My hair is naturally warm dark blonde and this doesn’t happen to me with highlights. I always ask for ashy blonde so they do a cool-toned toner on it. How did it look when you get the salon? I’d go back.
