How do people find fully remote jobs?

Hi I'm looking for a new career. Have experience in customer service/admin type roles and looking full time or part time.. whatever really just something to get me started although would love something to really get my teeth into. I say i dont mind but i am the type of person who gets very involved and takes alot of pride in my career. How have people found these types of roles? Any tips would be appreciated I'm on reed and indeed and then charity jobs but nothing is biting! Not sure why because I'm not getting anywhere close to an interview!!

I don't think many roles are advertised as fully remote as they generally aren't at the start, there might be an expectation that you do an induction period in house. I work fully remotely but it's not in my contract, so if there were any issues with my work etc they could easily pull me back in.
I think working remotely is granted more once you're eatsablished if that makes sense.

Have you tried LinkedIn? I see remote jobs on there a lot.

I'm fully remote but that was because I moved & my boss didn't want me to leave.

Thank you. I need to have another look at linkd in anyway I haven't spent much time on it to be fair.

I'm not entirely convinced admin jobs are that often fully remote.

I'm fully remote, but travel to clients and go into the office periodically to see colleagues.

We couldn't function if our admin team was remote though.

I’ve almost always worked from home for the past thirty years, either by only looking at employers in my field who have a central base but provide services nationally/regionally where remote work is the default); using the terms ‘home-based’ or ‘remote working’ in my search parameters; or by negotiating work from home at various points in the recruitment process or probationary period.

The council where I work is fully remote for admin jobs and I expect other councils will be the same as they are likely selling off offices due to being cash strapped.

I work remotely 95% of the time for a Local Authority. Started in a PA role and now working in a project focused role with lots of variety - I love it. Have a look at your LA and the neighbouring ones - lots of LAs are embracing home working to cut costs on office space.

Me too - DHs jobs needed to be physically near chemical plants, mine was a very early case of being able to do things over the Internet, and I'd established myself as being able to work pretty independently and reliably in a niche role.

It's hopefully a bit easier than that nowadays. There may be some customer service type roles working for a company headquartered overseas which needs staff in different time zones or geos where they don't have offices. I'm not sure how you'd find those though.

I am fully remote and I love it. It gives me great work/life balance and I don’t miss travel and office chit chat. I do occasionally go in for in-person appointments and enjoy catching up with my colleagues then but wouldn’t want to do it daily.

SausageAndEggSandwich · 13/11/2023 19:29

Is there a software or IT product you know well from your work OP?

I work in a field where I see a lot of customer service/customer success/customer support roles which are remote. Lots of them went remote over Covid & never went back.

It might be worth looking up those companies directly & seeing what roles they have

There's a page called The Work From Home Hub on Facebook that I'd highly recommend. Lots of fully remote jobs and some hybrid ones posted.

Guttedme · 14/11/2023 20:27

Remote work doesn’t exist anymore to my mind.

or it comes with restrictions eg. you must be available any 5 days out of 7, unsocial hours, use your own equipment, short term work etc etc etc.

even an ex employer today posted an ad per Indeed their job is 10 hours as hybrid remote which means you’ll spend some of those 10 hours in their office location so best of luck.

The last work from home job 9-5 but use your own equipment was plastered over tailored wfh Facebook pages as well as indeed.

I negotiated my fully working from home role during interview. I had a decent idea of what the role entailed and I was confident I didn’t need to be in an office to do it. I floated the idea during an informal chat pre application and it wasn’t a flat out no so I applied. The actual physical office location was over 250 miles from me so no way could I take the role if offered on an in person basis. I basically made myself look so attractive that they had to offer home working if they wanted me.

I work in a pretty niche role though and my particular Combination of skills are Not common. But I think it’s worth a shot for any job.

I’m fully remote, just moved jobs. My last job went remote due to the pandemic, it stayed remote so we moved to the SW (previously in London). I was worried about finding another but whilst there wasn’t the same choice I had in London, obviously lol, there was still enough out there.

I used headhunters, I find all my work this way, however it’s normal in my industry and at my experience level (marketing, senior head of department level, on the technical end of the spectrum rather than brand so quite a niche skill set).

Go on LinkedIn, find suitable recruiters, set up calls - even if they don’t have anything right then and there continue checking in and building your network. You have to sell yourself quite hard if you want remote!

Singleandproud · 14/11/2023 20:41

Government arms length bodies and civil service have plenty of remote jobs
Technically I'm meant to go into the Office once a month for my own wellbeing but my team is dispersed nationally so most don't. We try to get together in a central office every 3 months or so but again if people can't make its a non-issue.

Fully flexi hours can work anything between 7am - 7pm providing 37 hours completed over the week, with upto 2 hours for lunch providing it doesn't impact the business IE you block it off so meetings are booked there.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/11/2023 20:41

Remote work doesn’t exist anymore to my mind.

It does, no doubt rarer than during and immediately after the lockdowns. But more likely to be roles that are suited to being done remotely will be the ones that survived (or indeed, preceded that era like mine)
