To feel like I’m getting a migraine from worrying about this with one year old

Dc is one on Saturday. I haven’t phased in milk yet after reading it can cause bleeding or something if given too soon?! Anyway he’s had it in cereal once or twice but I’ve built it up in my head now that if I give it to him on its own or mixed with formula that it will harm him. I wanted to do the transition before nursery but he started there last week and I’m still panicking about what to do.

Do I have to wait until bang on his birthday? Would it be ultra safe to wait until 13 months to be extra sure it won’t harm him as a drink?

If they've already had it in cereal and not had a reaction, it should be fine to have just by itself. Mine both had it in cereal regularly from about 9 months ish...they just shouldn't have it as their main drink under 1 because it doesn't have as many vitamins as breast/formula milk.

I don’t think it’s that a small amount can cause internal bleeding… just that if you swapped all their milk feeds to cow milk at a young age they wouldn’t be able to process the protein very well.
Theres no harm in just giving a small amount in a cup and introducing v gradually from around 12 months though and also sticking with their normal boob/formula if you’re worried…

ps. Have you given them yoghurt/ cream cheese etc already?

Has your son had milk cooked in stuff? I’d do you know he’s not allergic to dairy?

As long as you’re sure he doesn’t have a dairy allergy you really don’t need to worry. A few days before or after his birthday won’t make a difference. You don’t need to wait until 13 months, but if that’s what you want to do to feel comfortable then you do you. I remember being super stressed about changing dd to milk. The day after our dd turned one we swapped one of her bottles of formula for milk. Then gradually changed all her bottles to milk. She got on with it really well, better than she ever did with formula

(Honestly milk is so much easier than formula)

  1. Speak to your Dr and get some support for your anxiety.
  2. if your child has had normal formula they will be fine with cows milk.
