to ask if you think Feliway is worth it?

My cat is spending more time in someone else's house than mine. He still comes for food, but seems eager to leave immediately afterwards. Sometimes he stays for a few hours but on the whole, he seems to prefer being elsewhere. Nothing at home has changed. It is warm, quiet and there's always someone here. I was thinking about trying Feliway but £12 for a 7-day starter kit seems ridiculous. Or is it worth a shot?

Absolutely worth it. We have it on quite often for our two cats and always have the spray for trips to the vet etc.

User562377 · 12/11/2023 13:13

I rate it, yes. One of our cats is a wanderer and has been coming home more often since we plugged it in.
And they fight less with each other.

SnapdragonToadflax · 12/11/2023 13:13

I'm not sure if will entice your cat to stay, but it's definitely worth it for stressful situations like moving house.

Is your neighbour feeding your cat?

TheLonelyGoatTurd · 12/11/2023 13:13

It had no effect on our cat at all. We had it plugged in in the utility room and it left a greasy substance on the underside of the wall cupboard.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/11/2023 13:35

I found Pet remedy more effective.

Shellingbynight · 12/11/2023 13:41

Not worth it IME. I have tried all the varieties and they had no noticeable effect any of my cats.

Like a previous poster, I find Pet Remedy more effective (and it's cheaper).

However I am not sure that either product would help with the issue of your cat wanting to spend time elsewhere. Do you know where he is when he isn't at home?

Do you have children/other pets he might want to be apart from? One of our cats used to spend time with a neighbour because he liked being the 'only cat'.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 12/11/2023 13:43

It works for some cats and not for others. Hope you find a solution.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 12/11/2023 13:43

Notmal feliway drove my cats crazy, feliway optimum works brilliantly though.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 12/11/2023 13:44

*Normal not notmal!

warriorofhopelessness · 12/11/2023 13:46

No I don't think it is worth it. It's overpriced and doesn't work for my cat.

margotrose · 12/11/2023 13:47

No, it made absolutely no difference to us.

The only way you can guarantee your cat stays at home is to keep it indoors or on your property.

LittleGreenDragons · 12/11/2023 13:53

You need to lock him in your house for a week exactly how you would if it was a new house. He needs to have a chance to spread his scent everywhere so it smells more like home. During this time you could use the feliway to help calm him down. My DD swears by Feliway but my vet used Pet Remedy at their practice which calmed my rescue down massively, so I guess it depends on the cat.

Edit - its not a grey/white cat by any chance....🤔

Yirk · 12/11/2023 14:02

Made no difference and smelt awful !

FindMyLocalSite · 12/11/2023 14:28

I have no idea where he goes, but his fur definitely smells of another human's house when he comes home. I don't think they're feeding him as he comes home for that, but leaves immediately after. He's always been allowed to go in and out as he pleases so he would be very distressed if he was to be kept indoors. He's never had a litter tray and does his business outside. I'll have a look at per remedy.

Feliway Optimum has been the only one to make a noticeable difference, but we wouldn't be without it now :)

margotrose · 12/11/2023 14:40

Keeping him indoors isn't the only option, you could look at a Catio or cat-proofing your boundary.

Unfortunately if you let your pet out unsupervised, this is one of the risks. At least he's safe and happy, even if it's not necessarily with you.
