Charity shop problems

I love charity shop and second hand shopping. Most my wardrobe and small DC's is all Preloved. And I luckily found the dream 100% wool jumper in a charity shop day before yesterday.

Got it home and I realised it absolutely stinks y'know that real musty dank old smell so instinctively put in the machine at low setting and as I put it in realised it was also covered in holes towards the bottom and at the back. I now pressume moths!

Now I'm worried my washing machine is covered with germs and larvae and that I've brought moths into the house.

AIBU -Do moth eggs stay on clothes? Would I see them? I really don't want an infestation with two small DC.

It's such a shame because it was a jumper i'd been searching for forever and really love it.

Don't be ridiculous. Holes in the jumper doesn't mean moths in the house. Your washing machine is fine.

Just chuck it in the bin and move in. You've not brought anything home.

If you put it in the freezer for two weeks it will kill any moth eggs

Small holes can be repaired totally invisibly. You could try taking it to a local alterations shop if you don't feel confident doing it yourself.

If you are concerned about eggs in the machine 🙄 then do a 60' wash or an empty cleaning mode at 60' or above.

If you buy things from charity shops, you have likely bought moth eggs and larvae into the house many times before this!
