describe any persons intelligence let alone a child.

Just that really. It seems that we can all talk about academic intelligence and how it relates, or not, to those with special needs and it seems to be an acceptable term. I find this quite upsetting especially when used in relation to kids. It seems such a hopeless way to describe someone.

I agree.....tis a very belittling and demeaning way of referring to someone, as are stupid, idiot, dum etc.

it is my list of banned words at home, altho it is taking the boys time to catch on.

I so hate it when I hear kiddies using words like this, as I fear their parents use it to refer to them.

We banned them as DH's mum used to call him stupid as a child as he had real difficulty with reading etc. It left him with quite a poor impression of himself for a long time

interestingly our DD2 has been DX dyslexic, and our DS1 is being referred also, and they both show the same exact signs as DH, so am wondering if he is one of the many undiagnosed ones from the 70/80's schooling.
