To ask about this parking ticket

I parked in a nhs car park. Someone told me it was free and I didn't check. I was parked around 30 min, when I returned I saw a sign and realised it was a pay for car park so immediately bought a ticket. I've now received a fine from a company called IPC. £100 fine reduced to £60 if paid in 14 days. Options are suck it up and pay. Or go through appeal process which is up to 28 days but I assume I'd have to pay the full amount if I lose my appeal. Is having a valid ticket for some of my visit a reason to appeal? I paid for an hour but was was only there 40 min (30 min was prior to buying the ticket)

I don’t want to be pessimistic but the chances of any appeal succeeding on these facts seems remote. You did ultimately buy a ticket but you were parked without one for a period of time, which I expect was in breach of the rules.

I’d just pay it and put it down to experience.

I've always ignored these types of tickets. Never had an issue.

@G3t88 people say this but can they not take you to court.?

I think you would lose on appeal so better to pay up now and have done with it.

Dacadactyl · 10/11/2023 21:59

I'd pay it and chalkll it up to experience. I think you'd lose an appeal.

Can't speak for other people, but I've never been taken to court, and no one I know has either.

Someone I know went down the route of not paying it and it caused no end of stress and marital strife cos they hounded them for years over it. Not sure what the eventual outcome was but they said it wasn't worth the fight.

It's so annoying. It's not that I wouldn't pay . But it was my fault for not checking. I was volunteering as well supporting a vulnerable adult. Another person at the centre told me about parking there but said it was free. (The centre is not NHS. )

There is advice on Moneysavingexpert on how to challenge these charges. Current advice is to never ignore them, and yes, they do sometimes take people to court.

Thanks

Ultimately you were parked for a period of time without a ticket so don't really have a case to argue. I would pay quickly and put it down to experience.

I would ignore the advice to not do anything. My friend tried this and all got very messy with her ending up with a CCJ.
