What did/would you do?

I will see a group of friends for low key lunch a few days before my actual birthday. My birthday is a Saturday, I have a Dh and 5 year old Dd. All other family in a different country, what would choose to do for the day/weekend?

Something Christmassy? It’s in a couple of weeks

Nothing particularly special. I got a PlayStation for my 40th though, which was cool

Nothing? Other than presents in he morning then cake with the family after school and work. Maybe out for dinner if it was a weekend.

Seaside town. Play on the beach, fly a kite. Take a thermos of hot chocolates and some whipped cream and marshmallows. Sea swim if you can! The posh fish and chips in a nice pub with an open fire.

or

Get up early for a work out. Come home to a big breakfast of pancakes and bacon. Then visit immersive museum experience type place with child, like a science museum. Then into the city for sushi and a couple of beers.

Sounds nice that the birthday will "begin" a few days before with your friends' brunch. Maybe on the day you and your kids (and OH?) could choose somewhere for a day out with a nice lunch or dinner if the kids will cooperate? Or do whatever you feel like and have some you-time?

I always take the day off work usually meet up with a friend for lunch as my family are hours away, it's always a particularly busy time of year for DH at work and the DC are at school & then have their usual after school activities.
Last year, the friend cancelled on me on the day so I spent the day on the sofa with the book & chocolates DH gave me and just enjoyed a few hours of uninterrupted peace and the house to myself. I enjoyed it so much, I am not bothering to arrange to meet anyone this year! I am spending a lot of time at the moment reading book reviews to make sure I have a good book lined up plus, perhaps, a spare in case it isn't as good as I had hoped.

I'm 47 on Monday but am a teacher so can't take time off. Family don't live near. I'm just going to the pub Saturday afternoon with friends. I'm not especially fussed about birthdays now. I'll probably organise something 'big' for my 50th though.

It's my birthday in a couple of weeks and it would never occur to me to do something Christmassy! My birthday is the start of Christmas - like, after it.

We usually do a nice family day out somewhere I like - so seaside, my hometown, a Nat Trust place, something like that. If it's a school day we'd do it the closest weekend, but I always take the day off work just to chill. Pre-child I would have lunch with friends or sometimes a day in London at art galleries or museums with my mum. Depends on the weather somewhat, it's a bit of a rubbish time of year for a birthday in the UK as it's often rainy/cold.

Nothing in particular, but then I've never really understood adults making a big thing out of birthdays.
I suppose if it's a big birthday, or if you've been ill/struggled and are just glad to have made it to that day, then perhaps a small celebration.
Happy Birthday when it comes.
