To want to do the DLA renewal form electronically and not by hand

Hi everyone
Posting here for traffic. My dd has a rare genetic disorder that causes many issues. I'm in the joyful process of renewing her DLA claim. We've had a form through the post which appears to need to be filled in by hand. My writing is terrible and I'm struggling to get the answers in the boxes. I have been on the DLA website to see if I can download an electronic copy I can print and send off but there doesn't seem to be one which I find odd. People in the know do you have to do the renewal form by hand?? Any tips?

Thank you so much

Hi thanks yes I found that one but its a different form to the renewal one which I had in the post. I can't seem to find a renewal one on the site.

Ah ok sorry, think I only ever filled that one in (but it was a while ago now!)

Type and print your answers, cut and stick into the boxes. That's what I do, plus you have a record of what you've sent and you can adjust next time much more easily.

Are you just applying for mobility on top of an existing claim or is your current award close to ending?

The downloadable form is fine and yes it's a little different from the one they post but it's the right form.

Alternatively I love the suggestion to print your answers and stick them in!!

Pinkbakerscap · 09/11/2023 14:58

I did think about the print and stick option but wasn't sure they'd accept that. If you have done that successfully I think I'll do that too, its better for everyone, they won't be able to read the form otherwise!!

Current award close to ending, we have mobility and the general award at the moment because she has lots of issues.

I always make text boxes in word that fit the space on the page, then type my answers. I go way beyond the space allowance and I just fold the paper up in the booklet if it goes beyond the bottom margin. They scan the document when it gets there anyway.

ok great thanks everyone I have a plan now, I was dreading handwriting it. I never handwrite more than an address on an envelope now a days.

Also, @Pinkbakerscap you can always write "See page 10 of additional information", etc., and include separate pieces of paper. Just make sure that they all have your child's full name and NI Number. I get one of these stampers and stamp each page of my additional information pages and any evidence that I provide.

Can you scan the form in?

Then add text boxes in the correct spot, type in answers, save for your record and print a copy to send?

Give them a call and ask them to forward you an electronic copy. They will actually accept the form in whichever way you submit it. I receive requests for PIP support as part of my work and I always send them typed up letter with the subheadings they have on their original form instead of filling it in by hand or following their formatting. I've not had an issue yet
