Or is the orthodontist?

Started orthodontic treatment as I have an impacted canine. My other teeth are all fine.

Cost to slowly move canine - £5500

I took out a bank loan for this as dentist said they couldn’t do a bridge as it’s a canine, and an implant wasn’t an option. Ortho said implant would be unpleasant with bone packing etc. I was told leaving it wasn’t an option either as my other teeth would move to fill the gap, hence the 4 year bank loan.

9 weeks in, canine not moving. Ortho does a CT scan and turns out the tooth is fused to the bone and won’t move ever.

He is billing me £2000 for the treatment so far - when I feel like I’m no better offf - nothing has changed. My teeth are the same when I began treatment. I’m actIlly paying £2000 for nothing

I feel like he should have offered the scan before treatment to check this if it was a possibility? Then I’d only be £150 down instead of £2000.

Is there anywhere I can go for advice?

Can’t tell if aibu or the Ortho is?

Replying to you more in solidarity than having a clear answer. I agree this sounds unreasonable and my first step, in your position, would be to make your point in writing, stating that a scan would have been beneficial as a first step and asking for a detailed breakdown of costs.

What?! I'm sorry, but if there are factors that could influence the success of a procedure, surely those factors should be checked before going ahead?! I get that not everything can be accounted for and there are always unknowns but this doesn't seem to be one of them. I wouldn't be playing them a penny without this being escalated first.
