To ask you to recommend a book about puberty?

Looking for a good, non-threatening reference book about puberty for a 9yo. Criteria are:

  • covers both girls and boys
  • avoids gender stereotypes
  • accessible and non-scary for a relatively young-for-their-age child
  • emphasis on how normal puberty is not how scary/icky it can be
  • feels contemporary not dated

I like Claire Owen’s “Growing Up: an inclusive guide” in terms of tone and the level at which it’s pitched, but am not happy with the content on gender identity - not trying to debate this here, just feel that introducing the idea we all have a gender identity separate from our sex will not make sense to a fairly literal-minded kid - the point is to find a book that will reassure and not confuse.

I got my dd the girl and boy one of these. Would recommend. Fairly thin so easy to pick up and read.

I would also recommend the book suggested above. Very clear and factual (and no gender stuff).

The Care and Keeping of You, book 1 and book 2, by American Girl Press. Available on Amazon.

Great, positive, factual book for girls.
There is a boy version too.
