Why are some cups of tea completely perfect, and others just a bit meh?

Why is this? When both are made the same way - freshly boiled water so none of the depressing re-boiled water, brewed for the same amount of time, teabage swirled in the same manner before removing?

I don't get it. Why are some cups of tea perfect and everything you dream of in a cup of tea, and others are more akin to sad tasteless brown water?

Incidentally, the first cup of tea of the day is almost always a winner. Chances of inferior tea increase as the day passes. Wonder if I just get tead out but in denial about it?

I don’t really enjoy tea at my daughter or son’s house as neither of them have a teapot. I like to make mine in a pot and pour it 2 mins later. I don’t like it strong but I like it hot and when I’m half way through my mug of tea I go back to the teapot for a top up 🫖

@Jitterybugs

well, that's two Christmas presents sorted then!!!

I don't know. My friend makes tea ALL kinds of wrong, but I love it & I can't make as nice a cup whether doing it 'right' or wrong.

it has proved to me (that at my house) it's not the type if of bags or the water.

So I don’t drink tea. Or coffee. Or any hot drinks. My husband doesn’t drink tea but a lot of home (hand) ground coffee.

Lord knows I’ve tried- I just don’t like them! It is one of my mothers greatest failings in my upbringing apparently.

2 questions…

1- my 11yo loves a cup of tea when visiting other people… Which I hardly ever think to make at home as no one else is in the house drinks it. Are we depriving him?!

2- how do I brew a good cuppa for friends that pop by? I chuck a teabag on boiling water, swirl it around until it looks proper brown, whip it out and Chuck some milk in. Add a biscuit…

😳🤯

Yes I wonder if it’s because we eat and drink different things throughout the day and that just makes subsequent teas taste different as the day goes on.

I don’t think it’s actually to do with the cup of tea itself but more about how thirsty you are.

The worst cup of tea is almost always down south in somewhere like Oxfordshire with crappy hard, chlorine tasting water and weak as fuck, almost embarrassing, tea bags brewed for 30 seconds. Just don't bother. Or even worse some Earl Grey shite
