Parking issues

Posted this on property but got no responses.....
Hi recently bought a house on a small estate..houses are about 30 years old.
Issue is, there is a narrow footpath which runs down the side of our house and the small road which leads into the rest of the estate is on other side of path.
People keep parking on the path sometimes completely blocking our gate so we have struggled to get out of our property.
Sometimes vehicles are parked almost bumper to bumper on the full length of the path (wheels on the path) so I have had to literally squeeze between the cars to get to the other side of the road.
Is there anything that can be done am i wrong to be fed up by this as i understand that many will say drivers pay road tax so can park wherever ? The other week a delivery we were expecting couldn't even get the parcel across the footpath because of all the cars parked on it.
It feels like we are living in the middle of a car park.
Feel so frustrated

Is this your only entrance? That must be annoying.

Can you get a cone and stick it on the path at the edge of the road and get an angry sign on your gate asking 'constant access needed' or something?

catchmewhenifall · 06/11/2023 19:17

But also you'll get asked for a diagram!

AhBiscuits · 06/11/2023 19:18

Diagram.

jazzyfips · 06/11/2023 19:20

Yep, can’t comment without a diagram😂

Is your road adopted by thr council?

Neriah · 06/11/2023 19:21

Parking on a path is illegal. Call the police. I do this frequently - mobility scooter user who requires access. But prams etc also. You may need to "annoy" the police by reporting repeatedly, but they do eventually get the message.

TheGreenGreenGrassOfHome · 06/11/2023 19:22

Yes, if it’s council road then contact them.

I thought it wasn’t illegal outside of London?
it should be though!

Parking on the pavement - is it illegal? The definitive answer | RAC Drive

Parking on the pavement is not illegal outside of London. You can, however, still get a fine for doing so in some instances. Learn more here.

Anewuser · 06/11/2023 19:24

Yep, obstructing the path is an offence and whilst the police won’t be interested, you keep on and eventually they’ll send out a PCSO.

Force your way past cars parked on pavements assert your use of the pavement with anything you need to carry, if scratches happen they're obviously expecting them. I know plenty who will force mobility scooters through the 'gaps' left by thoughtless drivers.

Conkersinautumn · 06/11/2023 19:27

Open your gate outwards into cars as well, they should be clear of the access.

I have no idea..how do I find out and what would it mean?

Wish I could but one will only open inwards and the other isn't really a gate as such, just a gap to walk through (when cars aren't blocking it)

OP posts:
Boogirlgirl · 06/11/2023 19:33

And just to add...in between our gates is just a hip high hedge not a wall or fence so I am always worried if anyone looses control while they're parking on the path there isn't a lot to stop them ploughing into our garden or house plus it also means that all we can see when we look out of our side windows is a row of other people's cars inches from our property

I'd park across my drive personally for the time being. Also notices about needing access at all times. Lack of parking is an absolute nightmare, when I was looking at houses to buy it was on my list of immediate rejections. You have my sympathies..

PotterHead1985 · 06/11/2023 19:38

Ooh I found a live parking one. Excellent.

I agree with forcing your way through. My mother can't walk much, has a walker (and the pavements here are shit enough as it is) and dìckheads are constantly parking on the pavements or blocking the drop of the kerb.

We don't even drive so don't have a car ..so it's not really about us not being able to park, more about not being able to get out of our property some days. As far as I can see its not even people who live on our estate parking there..its people from other, sometimes faraway streets parking there as its probably deemed a nice, safe estate

Park on the road yourself? Just realised you don’t have a car. Nothing you can do unless it’s double yellow.

Edited

I don't drive..more issues of getting out and into our property some days and actually now I'm on a roll, the bloody noise they make on a morning with their engines as some of these are work vans and are quite noisy!!

Have you tried putting notes on the windscreens? Being charitable, people may not have realised they’re blocking your only exits.

They may well not care, but it’s something I would try to see if it worked at all.

ErinAoife · 06/11/2023 19:43

Put a note on the windscreen of the offended cars asking them not to block your gate.

To be honest, our exits are very obvious..im guessing people don't care x

Some judiciously placed rockery boulders outside of your gates? Painted white so drivers can't say they don't see them.
