In part of a large circle of friends I have become part of a breakaway group with two others who like to watch football. We know each other through another sport that we all play, go out quite a bit for nights out and all share this interest in football, go to the pub together to watch it etc.

Anyway, they are all fans of our closest Premiership club, although don't go often because tickets are expensive and hard to come by.

I am a season ticket holder at a lower league club. They have all been to see my team play with me at various times but not regularly because they don't have a enough interest

The Premiership team have a game coming up where tickets are easier to get, though still expensive and the three of them were arranging to go. WIBU to dig one in the ribs and say Oi?!

Just buy your own ticket and go, with or without them

Goodfrock · 05/11/2023 19:25

Yes, I'd buy my own ticket regardless

I'd do it. They've been with you enough that you know you all get along. I don't think it's that cheeky. It's a football match and friends. You're not gatecrashing someone's date

HunterHearstHelmsley · 05/11/2023 19:28

No harm in asking. They probably haven't thought about it.

Dacadactyl · 05/11/2023 19:29

I think it's OK to say "I heard you were thinking of going to the match next week. I'd love to go too" see what they say.

If you're feeling more blatant than that, just say "I'm planning on going to the match next week too. I heard you're going with x and y, so I'll meet you at the station at 10am"

UsingChangeofName · 05/11/2023 19:36

Well, of course YANBU, but I presume they presumed that you'd be watching your own team, that you have a season ticket for.

No, this is a midweek match, we don't have a game. The sides are not often at home on the same day anyway.

You could present them with a fait accompli and say “I heard you were going to the match - I’m going too; Would it be fun to meet up?” That way you’re giving them the choice but they should realise they’d be pretty rude to say “No”!

MasterBeth · 05/11/2023 19:51

You don't have to dig them in the ribs. Just say "I wouldn't mind seeing that game. Can you get me a ticket as well."

I know but that's what I did, a reflex elbow in the ribs and Oi, what about me 😆
