Had big dreams but fed up of office politics

From very young age I looked up to some great female CEOs and dreamt of becoming one of them and leading a big company/organisation. Worked hard, continuously and relentlessly to get to the head of department role to work step by step towards my goal. I am early thirties and a woman of colour and now I am seeing the office politics, discrimination and some bias sort of things towards me. I am still motivated and would carry on working towards my goal but bit fed up now if this is what it's going to be like. I had some hard time at work due to people constantly pushing back in a new role I am in and have been stressed a little bit.
Now, I am questioning if it would be worth it to get stress and keep jumping the career ladder to reach my childhood dream or just coast and work for money just 9-5.
Looking to get some perspective from people who had similar experiences and how they dealt with it.

Personally, I think it would be a great shame to abandon your dreams - we need more women in senior roles, and more POC in senior roles - but you have to do what's right for you.

Thanks @CesareBorgia for responding. It's a helpful reminder to keep working towards the goal not just for myself but for paving a path for others who need a role model.

Push ahead but look for work places where you will be valued.

I have a disability and faced discrimination during my last work place. I moved on once I was qualified staying in the same field but moved from academia to industry. I waited a couple of weeks before bringing up my condition and they couldn't have been more accommodating. Had they been similar to my previous work place I would have considered leaving the field. It's renowned for being difficult with any one that isn't always accommodating and I have previously left a job for gender discrimination when I was denied first aid because I was a woman and the first aider was man. I'm now a first aider and know this was rubbish!

Thanks @Superscientist I am considering looking for another role but I have only been in this new role for few months.

There’s an excellent mentoring system at my firm for women (others for others too) and they can be really helpful at supporting people in navigating issues and having a perspective from outside of your own line. Is there anything similar there?

I feel for you. The workplace I left due to gender discrimination I had only been working at for 3 weeks. I had been struggling to find a job for months and was fresh out of university.
This job required shift work including night shifts. I couldn't trust the company to keep me safe at night. I probably would have stayed longer if it was a 9-5.
Keep an eye out for new jobs, if you can get passed 6 months it might be more accepting for you moving on. Especially if for a position above where you are. There were a few people who started an left again before I met them during my 13 months maternity and sick leave

Please don't give up. It sounds like you're in the wrong company, not the wrong job.

Speak to a recruitment company who deal with senior leadership roles and tell them the values you're looking for in the next company you work for. Let them find you the senior position you deserve in a company that will appreciate you and everything you can bring to the role.

I have a colleague who was ready to throw in the towel on senior leadership roles as she was so disillusioned with the environment she was working in. She's now very happy and in a very senior role within a fantastic organisation who share her values.

It sounds like you've been in the same job for a while OP? I think I'd look at opportunities elsewhere, so you can see whether it's this specific company or the fact of having to function at this level as a WOC that's pissing you off. It's a very big life decision to make without getting more experience.

@JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn thanks for your response. Glad to know about your friend that she has found something aligned with her values. I hope I find something aligned to mine as well.

@TrashedSofa I have been in same organisation for 5 years but various roles and this is a new promotion I got and it's been already difficult so quickly.
