To think there's nothing in the shops..?

These days? I remember going shopping and feeling spoilt for choice for clothes.. now I can go and there's nothing. Today all I wanted was a few tops, maybe some casual jumpers to wear with leggings.. nothing.
Does anyone else feel like this? I don't know if it's an age thing now I'm mid 30s or what?

where have you tried? I normally look in TKmax, reduced sections. I normally find something

Mid 30s I use apricot online, izabel London and joe browns. Can never find anything in stores and I used to love shopping.

Mid 30s here and I agree. I feel like I don't know what my style is since having my children so I'm glad it's not just me struggling.

We are spoilt for choice in this country when it comes to clothes. Between shops and the internet we have never had more options. I was in Next and Matalan yesterday and there were lots of tops, leggings, and casual jumpers.

HappyCamperTent · 05/11/2023 08:44

You mean nothing that you liked?

Pottedpalm · 05/11/2023 08:45

I’m actually quite impressed with m&s this season; lots of lovely sweaters in particular.

I don't find clothes an issue but shoes! You really need to be able to try them on and I've been to John Lewis and couple other department stores, and specifically shoe shops like Clark's and it's all a variation on the same theme, with no variety.

I'm 37 with a 1yr old who was my first and I'm exactly the same, I basically live in cargo jeans and long sleeve tees now.

It sounds like you need to find new shops/brands you like.

I remember looking in my wardrobe a few years ago and everything looked drab, I've been updating things for the last few years.

I LOVE ❤️ Joe Browns, also got quite a few dresses and tops from Roman.

Similar age and the problem might be that the style you're comfortable in is no longer in fashion. So wider legs and tighter tops are more on trend for younger people - if you're still shopping in the shops you went to as a teen (difficult tbf now Topshop etc have closed) you'll struggle. Try H&M, M&S, Arket and &Other Stories. I've found River Island pretty good this year too.

Yes I mean the shops weren't empty.. but just nothing that I would pick up and go "oh that's lovely!"
In my local town there is only really new look, matalan, next, select and M&S. I must admit actually I did look in M&S which I never do and they did have a good selection of basic jumpers.. but then the age range around me was about 80+ so I worried I was then shopping too old!

In winter for staying in I just wear leggings and long sleeved long tops/jumpers, and for going out of the house I'll wear skinny jeans and some kind of long sleeve top or jumper.

In summer it's cycle shorts, baggy t shirts or midi skirts/dresses.

I don't know why it's so hard!!

I went to Primark yesterday and there was lots of choice of formal trousers/shirts but I really struggled to find straight leg joggers/yoga style trousers, really basic for dog walking (because my current ones are all too big and I’m tripping over them-my arse has shrunk). I’m going to pop to Asda to see if I have better luck. I’m reluctant to spend loads when it’s just for dog walks.

Because absolutely none of these things are trends at the moment, so there will be less in the shops. (Note I'm not saying don't wear them - just that they'll be harder to get). M&S will do leggings, tops, jumpers and skinny jeans, and I suspect New Look would have cycling shorts and midi dresses (it's not somewhere I shop, and actually maybe they wouldn't have cycling shorts coming into winter). You might have to order online but both their returns are really easy.
