I understand you don't want children eating washing products but I'm only early 50's still have teenagers, with hypermobility, I have used garden secateurs to chop through the side of a box of washing tabs because I cannot at all open the sodding box.

I have had 3 different domestic detergent engineers tell me to not put powder/liquid/anything in the drawer as they ultimately gunk up the tubes which means you end up with the rinse cycles containing detergent from the pipes/tubes leading from the drawer to the drum.

I prise the lid off then tip them into a tin I put in the cupboard for them. Or buy the bag of pods and cut the fucker open!

The chap who repairs our appliances says they have much less trouble with washing machines when people use normal powder, as it doesn't deposit gunk in the invisible parts, but cleans the pipes etc as it goes. Not on topic, but he also said we should only use Fairy in the dishwasher. We are obedient to him, and so far so good. Our washing machine is 14+ years old, and used daily, sometimes multiple times a day (very sporty family, so lots of mucky kit, and towels etc).

I use persil powder
£20 for 130 washes and opens with a pull tab, cardboard box

Did buy the pods once and had to give them to next door to open. He failed, handed them to his 9yo who did it instantly

Only me who uses the Eco Egg then. Refills are tiny little boxes. Was sceptical at first but they clean the wash well, just need to keep track of how often you've used it - sheet of paper on the wall in laundry room

I use powder specifically so I don't have this problem. Tesco's non-bio - and I find it cleans better than the other options. My mum (I was her carer for a while) used to use tabs and Persil liquid etc, but although they smelled better, the cleanliness just wasn't there.

But she did convert me to colour catchers. They are amazing.

I would have thought personally that 'Don't feed Ariel pods to three year olds' was pretty bloody obvious, but there you go, people don't just seem to need to be told this, they need to have it made almost impossible (until they decant the tabs into a big glass jar as per influencers, along with stinky perfume beads) for anybody to get into the things.

We've protected young children from toxic substances (bleach, medication) for many years, to avoid tragic accidents.

Protecting children is a good thing.

I know someone who drank bleach.

I've started using liquid again for precisely this reason.
I have a disability, live alone and can't bloody open them.
