To treat myself instead of getting something for DC?

I work for a retailer that sells mostly designer childrenswear and footwear, although we do sell some of the nicer, more reasonably priced brands too. I’ve just gone on maternity leave and have been given a gift voucher as a present. There’s not really anything I need for baby or my other children that I could get from work that I wouldn’t be able to get cheaper elsewhere, whereas I haven’t had a brand new, nice pair of boots in years. But I feel a bit guilty when I think about it. WIBU to spend the voucher on a lovely new pair of boots for myself instead of getting baby things?

Get them boots, you have not bought a pair in years. Also this voucher is a present for you.

The gift voucher is for YOU. Therefore spend it on YOU! As it is not your first baby you’ve got all the stuff you need. I wouldn’t even think twice about it if I’m honest.

Get the boots.

The baby doesn't need shoes, and buying designer baby clothes is a waste of money. Also remember that the baby has / will receive (depending on if they've been born yet) lots of lovely outfits as gifts. Where as you're unlikely to be gifted a new pair of boots.

Sorry to be practical - I went up a shoe size after having my baby. Is it worth waiting?

FuzzyPuffling · 01/11/2023 16:51

You'll be able to look after your new baby much better if you have comfy feet.

Will you be going on walks with the pram? Then you need good boots.

Maternity leave present is for you - spend it on you. It’s like being given a food delivery voucher or a pregnancy massage. You wouldn’t feel guilty about those, would you?

Goodness, get the boots. They're an investment. I have a pair from Russell and Bromley, still going strong after five years.

children need good, well-fitting shoes, not designer shoes. Provided your children all have decent shoes (not the baby!) absolutely get the boots for yourself! It is a present for you
