Need help to save a cat

Im in the office and on my way to my car about 4hrs ago heard a cat/kitted crying and discovered it was stuck in the engine of a car in the carpark😭

I cannot get to it, Ive tried everything. I've sent messages in to all the buildings around the carpark to try find the car owner. I have put big signs on the window and door for the owner. Ive googled how to manually open the bonnet with no key. No luck.

But its been hours and I am afraid nobody will come back for the car even tonight. Its a ford focus. Is there anything more I can do? Any brainwaves anyone?

If you call the police and give them the reg they can contact the owner

Hopefully the owner of the car is at work and will discover the signs in a couple more hours after leaving work.

You could post on local Facebook pages though, including ones for lost and found pets in your area.

Ok, update. The fire alarm went off in next door building and everyone poured out so I went and got the fire marshells to ask everyone. Turns out the car owner is away for a week. But his housemate works in the same office so is going to get the spare key hopefully and let it out....tomorrow. I could cry for the poor thing.

I wouldn't wait till tomorrow to be honest. I would call RSPCA for advice as a minimum as they may be able to signpost you to services, give you some clue about how to keep the poor thing going till tomorrow.

TeaKitten · 01/11/2023 15:25

Don’t just wait, contact the RSPCA and see if you can do anything else. Really odd that the owner left their car at work and went away for a week.

Itjustgoesonandon · 01/11/2023 15:30

Aw I couldn't wait until tomorrow if I was you, it's amazing what you've already done for this cat. I'd go one step further and call the RSPCA for advice on what else can be done, good luck and I hope it's rescued today, poor thing.

SantaBarbaraMonica · 01/11/2023 15:35

I'll do that and see what they say. I'll be in the office tomorrow to follow up.

The fire brigade will set the poor thing free, they rescue animals all the time.

Amberjane41 · 01/11/2023 15:42

Calling the fire brigade would be my first thought

narsty · 01/11/2023 15:42

No advice but good on you OP for trying to help the cat.

Cats will often make their way to the engine of a car (especially after it's been driven) for warmth. Generally speaking if it got in there it can get back out (I have read a few times about people realising while driving a cat is stuck under the bonnet and said cat running away the moment the car stops). This is why the advice for winter months is to knock on the bonnet of the car or honk a few times before driving off to make sure no cat is in there. The main thing is to NOT drive the car if the cat is under the bonnet and you can indeed call the fire brigade (whether they'd be happy to dismantle a car when the owner isn't present to give consent and there is no imminent risk for the cat I don't know) but more than likely if you put a bit of food down close to the car the cat will eventually make its way out (you'll either see it or the food will be gone).

Police, fire brigade, RSPCA, local media.

Please don’t let anyone persuade you to leave the poor cat.
