Tubo-ovarian abscess anyone?

Hope someone can help. I was hospitalised with Tubo-ovarian abscess and treated with IV antibiotics and drainage. I am now continuing treatment at home with oral antibiotics. Would love to hear from you or anyone with similar in regards to your recovery.

Hey there. Sorry for late post, not on here much. I had the same about a week before you! Was excruciating. Mine was treated with just IV antibiotics (which made me feel dreadful), no drainage, but all better now. No idea what caused it. Have seen a senior consultant since who says unfortunately there is now some risk of reoccurrence - if symptoms start up again, I’m supposed to go to A and E and seek antibiotics and try and get someone to drain it. He told me drainage is best treatment (with AB) but not many are trained in how to do it. Hence why no one did that when I rocked up at a different hospital last time I guess! Anyway, hopefully you also feel much better and we never get a reoccurrence!

Thank you so much for your reply and sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, my infection did reoccur and I was admitted to hospital again at the beginning on December for IV antibiotics. This time they caught it early and therefore I was in hospital for only 2 nights and then continued with 14 days on oral antibiotics at home. I am terrified to be honest, because I have had it twice now. It seems that perhaps it didn't heal properly after the first time. I have endometriosis, adenomyosis and hydrosalpinx, so ideal conditions for repeat infections and they tell my that surgery is very risky too. I am in a difficult predicament. Anyway, hope all is well with you. May we stay healthy!

Oh gosh, I’m so sorry to hear that. Not sure where you are based and whether you have private insurance but I saw Prof Kurkovic in London and he was fab. I believe he also has NHS clinics at UCLH if any use. Good luck and hoping we both stay well x

I went to UCLH in October and December. I was very happy with the Consultant I saw, Dr Aslam. She has to referred me to the endometriosis surgical team and I have my appointment with them on 20th March. Thank you for your recommendation. I might see if I can see Prof. Kurkovic privately. Sometimes a second opinion can be really useful. Thank you so much.
