Hi

I ordered soft lenses, left and right eye, and it was only after trying one from each box of 30 on i realised I'd made a mistake. Lenses are in sealed individual containers and would be in the opened boxes. Anyone think there's anywhere to pass them on to by dropping off? Charity shop? Food bank bin at supermarket?

Where did you order them from that let you buy without a matching prescription? Asking because I had a right rigmarole trying to book an aftercare so I could update my prescription to order my lenses. I tried all over the internet but everyone asked for an up to date prescription.

I don’t think food bank or charity shop would give them out. They are a prescriptive device. If someone took them and had a car crash because they couldn’t see properly it would be a legal nightmare!

I order online all the time and never been asked for prescription. You do need to know base curve and power information though but they don't ask for proof.
I use visiondirect
Sorry, no advice for OP

This might be an option, at least not just going to landfill.

Yes I have the power and base curve.
Everywhere I tried said in the T’s & c’s to give issuing opticians details so they could verify the prescription. One place cancelled my order because they did contact my optician and the prescription wasn’t in date. I might try vision direct before my usual place when I next order, just to test it out. Thanks.

Boots also take contact lenses, foil tops and the plastic packaging for recycling. You do have to make sure they are dry though. I took a big bag last month, so glad they take them.

Boots opticians I mean, not just a store without an optician.

Vision Direct used to require a prescription to be uploaded each year. They stopped this a few years ago. You need the details but no proof.

Obviously you should still go to your optician at least every 2 years for a check up, eye test & contact lens check.

I actually switched to Specsavers home care package recently - it's a monthly direct debit, a bit more than Vision Express. But all appointments, check ups etc are covered & you get a further discount on glasses. It works well. That might suit you?
