To go back to the hairdressers after spending £180 for balayage?

I went to the hairdressers for balayage, I had light brown dyed hair all one colour as the starting canvas, with my natural roots being a dark blonde.

I spent nearly 4 hours there, and spent £180 for balayage. The technique was really good and thorough. I showed the attached photograph as my reference, but emphasised that I was nervous and wanted it to be subtle (as in not too stripey, and I didn't want to walk out the salon with blonde hair).

At first I was happy with the results and thanked the hairdresser. But seeing it in daylight I think it's not really as much as I wanted, it's essentially my light brown hair with some slightly lighter highlights, there's not really any darker pieces or even different levels of blonde highlights.

I feel it was my fault for saying I wanted it to be subtle, but I think it's too subtle given that I spent nearly £200 there.

WIBU to go back and say I'd be happy to pay for them to correct it as I feel it was my fault for saying I wanted subtle.

Hair looks beautiful. I don't see anything wrong with it 🤷‍♀️

I’m sorry it’s not what you wanted but it looks beautiful 🤩 my balayage looks different in different lights, but I’m strawberry blonde so have less ‘lifting’ to do

I also wanted to add that I'm a new client and really happy with the salon and the stylist overall, so don't want to come across as a difficult client.

I think it looks lovely. I also think that is what balayage looks like.

However, if you are unhappy then any decent salon will listen to your concerns and try to put it right.

@XelaM @TheOutlaws Sorry I don't think I was clear enough in my OP. The attached photo is the picture I showed the hairdresser, I haven't got a good picture of my hair in daylight yet but it doesn't look like that.

How can we judge without a photo of your hair?

user701 · 01/11/2023 07:03

That’s not the OPs hair.

OP we would need a photo of your hair.

Balayage is a highlighting technique - you wouldn't normally add darker pieces. It would be fair to go back but I think you have to expect to be told that you asked for subtle, so they gave you a subtle highlight.

The balayage in the picture is not particularly subtle, there's a lot of highlights in there - you can see how blonde the bottom of her hair is compared to the top.

Pippa12 · 01/11/2023 07:04

Impossible to say without a picture, but I think your downfall is likely saying subtle.

Wehavealaughdontwe · 01/11/2023 07:04

Can you add a pic of your own hair so we can see? Anyway I think if you explain you feel they did a great job but you want it tweaked slightly and are happy to pay, they'll be more than happy to do that

Iwantmyoldnameback · 01/11/2023 07:05

I think that picture is pretty subtle so if you asked for more subtle than that I can't imagine it shows up much.

user701 · 01/11/2023 07:05

I think you will need to pay for it to be corrected. It isn’t their fault from what you’ve says (although we need a photo to tell really)
