To think this maternity pay is less usual?

6 months full pay. It’s amazing, but surely not common? This would be so great for so many people but I was watching a Tiktok about someone returning after mat leave and loads of the comments were people saying they had this.

YABU - I had six months or more of full pay
YANBU - I had SMP / combo of SMP and half pay

Work in finance; 6 months full pay, 3 months statuatory, 3 months no mat pay but I still collect housing, travel and car allowance which is 25% of my salary. (Also paid on top of the staruatory for 3 months)

ellecf21 · 31/10/2023 22:27

Sounds like a dream tbh. I had 12 weeks full pay then SMP till 9 months then zilch. 6 months would be great but I managed on mine. Really depends so much on individual circumstances. Some companies pay 12 months! But I do think that's rare.

That’s really generous

16 weeks full pay then on to statutory, you'd think 16 weeks is 4 months but it's not quite with some 5 week months

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 31/10/2023 22:28

I work in finance and had 6 months full pay, then statutory.

But no, I don't think it's that common.

Poniesandrainbows · 31/10/2023 22:28

I'm in finance too. I had 6 months full pay, 3 months stat pay then they offer 3 months unpaid. Fathers get 6 months full paternity here too.

TheSmallAssassin · 31/10/2023 22:30

I got 6 months' full pay in the public sector, I think you get three months extra on SMP now too.

Invisiboo · 31/10/2023 22:30

I'm a teacher, had 12 weeks full pay, 12 weeks statutory then can take up to 6 months unpaid.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 31/10/2023 22:31

I got 6 months full pay, 12 weeks statutory and then unpaid for one month. I used accrued holiday entertainment at this point which gave me another two months off but back on full payroll giving me a year in total.

Limmers14 · 31/10/2023 22:31

I’m in finance, we get 6 months parental leave - fully paid. Can be mums, dads or adoptive parents

It’s pretty standard across all investment banks. Possibly not the allowances as that’s specific to how some are structured, but the 6 months paid, 3 months stat, 3 months unpaid is standard

gotomomo · 31/10/2023 22:36

I got 6 weeks full then 23 weeks at 90%. Was a long time ago though

addictedtotheflats · 31/10/2023 22:40

Nhs is 8 weeks 90% pay then 18 weeks half pay+smp then 13 weeks SMP with optional further 13 weeks unpaid

JagerPlease · 31/10/2023 22:41

Civil service is 6 months at full pay, then 3 months at statutory, then 3 months unpaid. And shared parental pay matches maternity, so either parent can take the leave and benefit.

It's probably unusual in the sense of lots of employers don't offer it, but not unusual in that a large number of people work in the civil service, if that makes sense

Cnidarian · 31/10/2023 23:22

Civil service is 6 months full pay

RyvitaBrevis · 31/10/2023 23:58

I got statutory only. Work for a small business.

Replying only because everyone who has posted so far has had more than statutory!

Pregnant than screwed has the numbers if you're interested in what the norm is. They claim those offering enhanced maternity pay typically offer full pay for 12-13 weeks. So, the norm is much less than 6 months.

AngeloMysterioso · 01/11/2023 00:06

26 weeks full pay, 13 weeks SMP, 13 weeks unpaid in my company - online luxury retailer. DH works in IB and can also take 6 months full pay however bonus is pro-rata’d to reflect how long he takes off.

gartuk · 01/11/2023 00:13

I just had SMP but DH works in tech and had 6m full pay paternity.

This!

Professional job at senior level but in small business. SMP only, which is 90% of salary for 6 weeks and then drops to £170/week or whatever it is!

ThePaperTrail · 01/11/2023 05:52

Lawyer.

I had six weeks on 90% pay, then 50% from week 6-26. Then SMP.

Incredibly mean, imo. In my previous job I would have been entitled to 100% for the first six months.

KateyCuckoo · 01/11/2023 05:56

I had 6 weeks of 90% followed by 20 weeks of SMP.

SquashPenguin · 01/11/2023 05:58

I get the bare minimum. I will have no choice but to return to work after 5 months, as we are due to remortgage during that time as well.

Good old Wales not following suit with England’s new childcare provision as well 😒

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 01/11/2023 05:59

Worked in further education when I had my last child and it was SMP only.

NatMoz · 01/11/2023 06:03

I'm a civil service type role. I had 6 months full pay but its 9 months now!
