To want to tip hotel cleaner for tidying our room?

Cleaner just came in to our hotel suite while we were in there to ask if we wanted our rooms cleaned (it's just a bedroom, bathroom and lounge) - not stealth boast but I feel like in places like this cleaners might expect a tip. Anyway she did a really nice job of it and I asked DH to tip her. I didn't have any cash otherwise I would have. We're in the UK and I know it is not the culture to tip here.. but she also overheard us saying we would need water for baby's formula and she asked if we wanted more still water and she came back with three extra bottles of water (and maybe 1l capacity). I just felt like we could have tipped her because we would otherwise have had to pay for those bottles.

DH said we shouldn't have to tip because if we weren't in the room she would have cleaned it anyway and got no tip. AIBU to want to have tipped her?

Edit to include following info:
DH has paid for whole trip and I imagine it is quite expensive here (not stealth boast, but wanted to give context as I think it is important) it was a treat for me after a difficult year or so of anxiety and depression and I am finally feeling like I've beaten it

I always leave a tip for hotel housekeeping/cleaning if the service is good.

Make sure it goes to your chosen person, not just the next staff member to come into your room.

I tend to leave a tip in the room for housekeeping when I leave if they have been good. They will be the first ones back in there when you leave.

Your instincts were right. I always tip the cleaning staff, usually by leaving around £5 for each day of the stay on the dresser with a note that specifies the money is for the cleaning staff (otherwise they're often too afraid to touch it).

I used to clean hotels as a student and it's the hardest job I've ever had. They're under a huge amount of pressure to get through all of the rooms and are paid a pittance. It's incredibly hard work. At night, I was too tired even to watch TV.

Should customers have to make up staff pay with tips? Nope. But as long as there are people who work extremely hard and don't make enough to live on because voters prioritize the interests of wealthy employers, it's the right thing to do. Tell your husband to think of it in terms of the cleaning staff subsidizing our hotel stays by not getting paid sufficiently for their work. Good luck.
