Calling in sick with personal problem

JIGNAJAY · 30/10/2023 07:04

I've never called in sick before but I need to today. I have an extremely painful lump in an intimate area, very small but so sore I cannot sit down properly (have to sit on one bum cheek) and I also have a fever. Need to see a GP. I don't need to tell my boss the details do I? I have been on annual leave for a week and it feels wrong to he calling in sick on my first day back however it's just unfortunate. Feeling very stressed and anxious.

Just say that you have an infection and need to see a GP. That’s enough.

Khvdrt · 30/10/2023 07:06

In situations where I don’t want to share details I say I’ve been unwell and need to see the doctor/have an infection. My managers have never asked for full details

Infection with a fever.

Planesplanesplanes · 30/10/2023 07:07

Or just fever and not well enough to work.

MidnightOnceMore · 30/10/2023 07:08

You don't have to mention where, you just say you have a fever you think could be caused by infection and so need to be checked by a doctor.

Catscatscatscatscatscats · 30/10/2023 07:12

That isn't a personal problem..you are not well enough to work

henrysugar12 · 30/10/2023 07:20

If you have a fever then you're not well enough to work! It's not a personal problem, you are actually ill!

Yep, this! ^

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 30/10/2023 07:41

I think by personal OP means the area where the infection is, is personal. As others have said, have an infection, think it's causing a fever need to see GP today, will update you tomorrow. No need to give it any more thought then that.

mildlydispeptic · 30/10/2023 07:47

We get it, but running a fever is a valid reason to stay off work. And safe to assume Work will not want to know anything about the OP's lady bits simpler for everyone.

Mooshroo · 30/10/2023 08:01

I had exactly this! I said the lump was more upper thigh area rather than giving the actual location. I didn’t have a fever though so I would be inclined to go with something like suspected cellulitis

EvilElsa · 30/10/2023 08:15

Of course you don't need to go into details. I'm a boss and I'd never expect someone to tell me their intimate medical details. The basics are enough. It's not a personal problem either, you are waiting for a doctors appointment. Just say I'm unwell and waiting for a GP appointment, I will keep you updated.

Say exactly this.

hope all is ok too!

QuestionableMouse · 30/10/2023 08:42

Just want to say don't hang about trying for a GP appointment. Get yourself to urgent care or A&E - you need antibiotics and potentially it draining ASAP.

Floooooof · 30/10/2023 08:46

It'll be fine op, just call in sick. I hate doing it too but you really need to. I'd be more worried about getting an appointment! Good luck 💐

Hipnotised · 30/10/2023 09:20

If you've got high temp and fast heartrate you need to go to Dr ASAP.

I had this, plus infected lump, and was sent straight to A&E for intravenous antibiotics.
