Halloween Secret Santa

Never heard of this before but the office are doing a secret Halloween present thing. Buy a present under £10 and we give them out on Halloween at after work drinks. Weird imo but whatever, i'll go to Waitrose after work and find something I guess.
Problem is, some colleagues wfh mostly and wont be attending. One of them is my secret Halloween Santa. She has sent a message to the group saying she will be contributing and will post her present. At this stage, no I don't really fancy a trip to the post office to post a load of tat and alternatively, why would I send an amazon delivery to a semi stranger at my expense, when I assume that the whole fun of it is being together to watch colleagues open the "crazy presents". I'm keen to just say happy to participate but I'm not going to start a delivery service?

I honestly couldn't buy into this so would just decline.

What in the name of Bela Lugosi is a Halloween Secret Santa?

creativegoblin · 29/10/2023 21:14

Glad i'm not the only one. I'm going to message to say I won't be able to post present out and leave it at that .

Secret Santa by post is absolute bollocks. People who want to participate need to come into the office that day.

Secret Santa for Halloween is double bollocks.

Signed, The Grinch who is delighted her work no longer does Secret Santa.

Leeds2 · 29/10/2023 21:19

It won't be very secret if you have to tell her that you won't be posting her gift!

I would just decline to take part.

spidermonkeys · 30/10/2023 07:20

You can't pull out now though?

I do agree is a stupid idea but you should have declined before they drew names.

Can you order something from Amazon and have it delivered to her directly?

DappledThings · 30/10/2023 07:27

This is totally ludicrous. Secret Santa actually at Christmas is bad enough. Making it spread to other occasions is bullshit. I'd be cheerfully declining to participate at all.

KellyJonesLeatherTrousers · 30/10/2023 07:33

What fresh hell is this!

If it’s too late to pull out, either ask for her address (they might not give it to you GDPR) and send something from Amazon or email her a £10 M&S voucher?

And whilst you’re at it - let the organisers know now that you don’t want to take part in Secret Santa!
