To think colleagues were being mean about staff member vomiting?

So my teacher colleague got a vomiting bug and vomited on the carpet on her way to the bathroom in the staff room. Felt so sorry for her she was really upset. Most sympathetic towards her of course. Small group of staff saying it was disgusting adults should get to the bathroom etc. the next day the same group said they’d heard she vomited in the taxi that work called to take her home, and they were saying how could she not control it in the car. Saying she was like a three year old. I think they are being so cruel and yes I did tell tell them that I felt it was inappropriate to speak about her like this when she’s unwell. I don’t even know the point of my thread really but I am shocked by their reactions.

What a horrible reaction, especially as one of the symptoms of norovirus is that the urge to vomit can happen extremely quickly. It would really change my attitude towards colleagues if I heard them talking in such a heartless way

what a strange reaction. Nobody throws up at work on purpose! And who would risk a taxi cleaning fee if they could avoid it. Anyone who has had a sick bug knows how quickly and suddenly the vomiting can come on - there’s not much you can do to stop it.

I caught Winter Vomiting Sickness on a plane. Was sitting on the edge of the bed in my mates place in Corfu. No notice - puked and it hit the wall. Luckily it was all tiled. He had been in the bathroom a bit earlier. I asked what he was doing and he said 'Blowing chunks', which is US for being sick. So no, sometimes there is no warning.

Sounds like the reception class pupils would have more empathy than this lot.
Nasty people so I'm glad you spoke up on your colleagues behalf.

cherrypied · 29/10/2023 00:09

Sounds like they don't like her and are taking any chance to have a go at her.

Any sensible person would say OMG how awful OR any decent friends would laugh at the incredulity of puking at school and then again on the way home.

My colleagues would do both of these. Followed by "you were a funny shade of green"
Etc etc

Bitches

Report them to the HT, vile people.

jannier · 29/10/2023 00:25

God I wonder how they are with the children they sound vial.

RamblinRosie · 29/10/2023 00:29

Much sympathy to your colleague.
I had a vomiting bug - just made it to en-suite, grabbed bin then spent next 6 hours in bed projectile vomiting, absolutely no control. Hideous!

Your colleagues need a little empathy.

XenoBitch · 29/10/2023 00:57

I have been able to control vomiting when it was from drinking too much. Some controlled breathing when the mouth sweats start sort of thing.

But if you have a vomiting bug, then it is nigh on impossible. It just happens. Your colleagues are arses.

curaçao · 29/10/2023 01:25

Hmm i think she should have taken a receptacle in the taxi with her though!

EvilElsa · 29/10/2023 01:29

Poor thing, she must feel awful.
The carpet she obviously couldn't help. She probably should have been given/taken a bag for the taxi though -with her being that sick it surely would have been a given she would vomit during the ride home.

Charliecatpaws · 29/10/2023 01:38

You're colleagues are absolute ares holes. I'd not like to work with them.

Yeah this. Surely you'd take a bag or a bin or something? Just to stave off paying £70 clean up fee.
