How to deal with her without telling her to F**k o**

I’m an overeater always have been and probably always will. It’s been half term this week so I’ve spent most of the week eating non-stop. The ONLY time I don’t think about food is when I’m at work. I only started back to work recently after taking 5 years off to look after the kids. Problem is that in this new job I have this well meaning but really annoying woman who constantly asks me if I’ve eaten and if I say not yet she goes on and on till I’ve eaten. I’ve told her politely to not worry about my weight and I’m not likely to have missed any meals considering my size 18 frame!

The first month was okay but I seriously dreading going back as I might tell her to just go and f* o**. Like why does she bloody care? It’s constantly every break time and lunch time it’s the same question. I’ve told her her asking me makes me more hungry as I don’t think about food at work as I’m busy but she laughs and tells me I must eat. I really cannot stand her, I actually get why people get annoyed by “nice” people (if that’s what she thinks she’s being). I really hate this woman, I’ve never felt so strongly about someone I barely know. She zaps my energy everyday talking about her problems. I hate her! She makes me so confused at lightheaded with her constant natter. Im dreading next week

Just be honest; “you are being weird. Why do you keep asking me about what I’ve eaten”?

If she’s nice she’d stop asking once she knows she’s pissed you off. Do the same thing and you get the same results and the time has come to stand up to her.

@BurbleBumleBleep tgats good advice thanks. I need to be direct rather than laugh it off

I’d front it. Say yes, then say “have you peed yet? Make sure you pee!” Then always ask her if she has peed after she asks if you have eaten. She will stop, Trust me.

I think you need to take the bull by the horns.

Her... have you eaten yet?
You... why are you so worried about me eatting, I find it invasive.!
Her .. but you need to eat.
You.. thank you I know that.
Her . But have you eaten.
You. Sorry but I did just say I think I get to decide that.
Her . You might get hungry.
You. I know , thank you.
Her ... eat.
You . Oh yes.... walk away.

melj1213 · 28/10/2023 21:47

As advised in your last thread: just ask her to stop and if she doesn't then escalate it to your line manager as she is preventing you working.

PaperDoIIs · 28/10/2023 21:49

Or be the "why " twat. I'm shameless and do it quite a lot when people are annoying me .Grin

Have you eaten yet?
Why?
Well you need to eat.
Why?
Because you must be hungry.
Why?
Well you haven't eaten.
Why do you care?
Because it's not good for you.
Why?

Keep it going and watch her head implode.😬

Sorry, but this dialogue isn't good and needs a total overhaul.

For starters, #6 is a lie - your character actually didn't just say she thinks she gets to decide.

The rest is extremely vague and unnecessary.

PPs have taken their bulls much more firmly by the horns with a simple and direct "please stop asking me if I've eaten".

WiddlinDiddlin · 28/10/2023 22:23

This would piss me right off as well and no, it is very much NOT 'nice' at all.

She is not listening to you in the slightest.

Her intentions are frankly irrelevant.

Her: 'Did you eat yet?'

You: 'I have asked you repeatedly to stop asking me if I have eaten. I find it invasive, stressful and I have made it crystal clear that I'd like you to stop.

If you persist in questioning me on non work related, personal matters I will raise this with management/HR.'

Is probably more constructive than 'fuck off you irritating baggage'... though not as succinct or satisfying.

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 28/10/2023 22:29

Look her in they eyes and say Please Stop I am not a toddler needing a Nanny. Every single time just respond with please stop.

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 28/10/2023 22:31

Or just always reply with Yes I just ate a elephant.

Aroma220 · 28/10/2023 22:42

I hear this OP. I’m an emotional/boredom eater and I struggle more when I have time off. I’m gradually getting down to a healthy weight but the absolute last thing you need to hear is a patronising busybody who probably has never had a difficult relationship with food poking her nose in.

Either tell her straight, you can be nice as there’s some good examples of what to say, or make it obvious you don’t want to talk about it. One word answers, change the subject, move away if you can. She’ll get the hint. Good luck!
