Hi, just wondering if any of you ladies have found anything that helps? It's been 5 days now and although the tablets the doctor have gave me have take the sickness away I can't get rid of the light head. The spinning comes and goes but the light sore head is there constant. Maybe I'm just too impatient but I feel dreadful. The doctor could see nothing wrong with my ears. Has anyone found sudafed any good for it? Just trying to think of something that would clear my head. Thanks in advance x

I really feel for you. I had this a few months ago and also had labrythitis a few years ago. Horrific.

How old are you? Apparently it’s very common with women over 50, another perimenopausal thing.

When I’m the days does it happen? Mine was early morning when turning over in bed. The epley manoeuvre took a few times to really help but I think you should go back and see a different doctor and specifically ask about BPPV

Hope you begin to feel better soon

Thanks everyone. Im 38 and have never had vertigo before. The spinning is very random but I have a constant heavy light head and my eyes feel like they have a flicker it that makes sense?

My GP did Epley remotely and I got some immediate relief. Had to do it myself after to fully resolve and it works whenever it returns.

I had vertigo for the first time back in the spring. I'm 53. Went to bed early as I didn't feel good thought I was coming down with a cold and turned over in bed and had the most awful dizziness eyes rolling etc. staggered to the bathroom and was really sick. I felt exhausted and tearful for a few days. Gp said it was probably a virus. Gave me anti emetics and told me to rest and not drive for a week. It passed quickly but It really shook me up.

I really don't think you need to try all these manoeuvres (as PP says without proper instruction) after 5 days without investigating other meds via GP. Vertigo can be viral/ post viral (commonly reported as Covid symptom too) and there are various meds , not just the one your GP gave. They need to try others... ondansetron, cyclizine, for example.

Yes I think you are right

Perhaps ask GP if this would be beneficial

My GP recommended it both times but I think I also had a virus

It was in the morning when turning in bed and I am in my 50s.

The eye flicker is called nystagmus. It can be a symptom of various conditions effecting balance. I think you need to go back to your GP and be very clear about your symptoms, when exactly you experience them (still/ moving, upright/lying down, turning over etc) and ask for a referral. It might be BPPV which can be treated with the Epley manoeuvre. which has the benefit of being non-invasive and drug free. But it might not and you might need other treatment. Either way it's horrible and debilitating and you need to get it sorted. Good luck.

Fair point, but my gp told me to Google how to do it properly and it did help.

Don’t do the manoeuvre unless you’ve been advised to by someone who knows what they’re on about - if it doesn’t need doing you could end up dislodging the crystals and making yourself worse. I have a balance condition so I totally understand how dreadful it makes you feel. In my experience doctors were useless and I had to go private in the end to get my diagnosis. Not much helped other than riding it out but totally depends on what’s causing it. Hope you feel better soon.

This - be extremely careful

If you do the Epley manoeuvre on the wrong side you make the condition worse. If you are affected on both sides, you can't do the manoeuvre at all, because whichever side you do it will be wrong

icewoman · 31/10/2023 22:19

also be aware that it is illegal to drive within 6 month of an attack - you won't be insured either.

Lifestooshort71 · 31/10/2023 22:22

The Epley manoeuvre sorts out my vertigo every time but I do feel worse before it improves and need a lot of will power to persevere each time!

A daith piercing but a proper medical / migraine one not just from someone piercing in that general area in a shop. It really really is good x
