To think it’s never ok to smoke weed in the house when there are children

So my next door neighbours who I cannot stand for a number of (justified) reasons smoke weed inside their house. They have 3 young children and they don’t see the problem. I had to speak to them about it because our houses are semi detached and the smell comes through to our house. We both live in social housing and the walls are like paper and the workmanship eg plaster boards cracks in walls is absolute tosh so hence the smell coming through to our house. After me and dh speaking to them several times about the weed and them ignoring our polite request to smoke it in the garden I decided to do report them to the HA. Things then settled and we had six glorious months without having to endure the foul smell but the last few weeks my neighbours have started up again. AIBU to consider reporting them again? My dh also thinks we should report to social services but I think it’s one thing reporting it to housing to which we received no back lash from our neighbours, but I can guarantee if we were to report it social services it would be a different story. Not sure what to do but all I know is i don’t want to smell that crap in my house and I don’t want my kids to have to breathe it in.

Smoking weed can cause schizophrenia in some adults before you try and claim that's not true it happened to a family member of mine.
God knows what could happen to a child regularly breathing in weed fumes

There is no evidence that inhaling passive cannabis smoke leads to permanent brain damage in anybody. The connection between active use and schizophrenia is more established but you cannot extrapolate that one established correlation leads to the conclusion you made or any other conclusion without providing some evidence.

Where is the evidence of that claim?

FGS it is well known well established medical fact, deluges of evidence - find it yourself

You really are reaching here. Use your common sense kids have much smaller lungs then adults and passive smoking (of anything even cigarettes) has been shown to be harmful

I knew the op would slither off when we pulled her up about the fact she knows these people are driving whilst under the influence and smoking weed around their 3 children - yet has no intention of actively doing anything about it beyond navel gazing about what to do about her irritation at the smoke here children may be inhaling

I have a friend who works for the social services and I think you'll find weed is never really an issue when there's heroin addicts leaving their new born in a car seat for a week.. or alcoholics that beat down on their kids for no reason.. do your research before you go tarnishing the weed smokers. Its these alcoholics and coke users you can't smell you need to worry about!!!! It's there house mind ya business and get some plug ins! Pfft rude! I'm allergic to fish can I moan because my neighbours cook it and it stinks my house out?! Move if you're not happy.

I heard second hand weed causes your brain to melt slowly until you've nothing left but mush.... fact check.

Social services often are very much interested in cannabis use- it usually goes alongside other issues. It is always noted in any case notes I have read when it is being used.

Oh of course! But a lot of adults who smoke weed have good jobs loving clean homes and happy healthy kids.. People are getting the effects of weed confused with heroin, crack, ket etc.. which highly annoys me and is very small minded 🙄

If you suspect dangerous driving with children in the car I'd report to someone. Social services, police, DVLA possibly. That's the bit I'd have to report to someone.

Leah5678 · 10/07/2024 10:45

Tone down the snarky comment when my relative spent over a decade in a mental hospital because smoking weed did cause them schizophrenia. Confirmed by multiple doctors. I really couldn't give less of a fuck about your "fact check"
I highly doubt your parents smoked pot when you were a kid in the house but here you are on a thread defending it and misleading others so you can look cool. Grow tf up

OK but not sure why you've quoted me when I wasn't the one to resurrect the thread.

I find that interesting. SS aren’t interested in parents taking drugs whilst looking after children? I would think that’s exactly the kind of parenting they’d want to. Heck out. No wonder here are so many cases of unfettered abuse in the news if that’s the bar.

Not as much as you would think, I know someone who has been through a court case with her ex in relation to her kids, they drug tested both parents and the mother tested positive for a number of drugs including weed and cocaine. She had 24/7 custody of the kids so was obviously using while in charge of the kids, SS had already been involved throughout the court case and nobody seemed to care about the drug use
