Hi everyone my daughter is starting brownies and she's very shy struggles with friendships. I never went brownies so want to ask is it structured group activities? I really want her confidence to grow.
Thanks

Yep. It’s very organised and structured. They are put in small groups where specific girls have leadership roles (sixers and seconders) which include making new brownies feel welcome. It is run by volunteers so different brownie packs may have different activities etc depending on who is running it and how much time and effort they can put in

Anything like crafts will normally be on a table with her six, so she won't have to worry about choosing someone to sit with/being alone.
If there's teams for games, that is sixes too.

Brownies sounds perfect for your DD if she's a bit more introverted than other children. I won't say shy as that can be a self fulfilling prophecy. Being in a small group as part of a bigger organisation will help her gain confidence with new situations and new people amazingly. Hope she has lots of fun! 😊

Yes, as PP have said, she will be a member of a six and a lot of the activities will be in that group so she should find people to be with quite easily. Should there be any bullying etc that is not in keeping with the guiding ethos and should be swiftly stamped on by the leaders.
Some activities such as sing songs will be in the pack as a whole.
I hope she enjoys herself and gains confidence and skills!

If you are worried, have a quick chat with Brown Owl before your DD starts. I’m a cub leader, and if a new cub is shy, or doesn’t know anyone, I’ll always ask another cub to buddy up with them

Perfect thank you all. She was getting quite anxious about what to expect and the main worry is being left out.

Yes it is. I used to be a Brownie leader, it might be worth having a quiet word with the leader as there will be older girls who can take her under their wing until she gains confidence
