How much maintenance would you expect on this salary?

Ex is on 49k. He is adamant he isn’t putting any extra into pension than when we were together but he is currently paying 280. I feel like this is so small when I’m paying over three times this just for nursery, let alone Dd’s day to day costs. Does this sound right? Does anyone know?

Use the calculator?

crankit · 26/10/2023 15:56

You could use the cms calculator, that is the minimum though

Azandme · 26/10/2023 15:56

Use the CMS calculator.

BungalowBuyer · 26/10/2023 15:57

Sounds low but you need to use the calculator, there are other variables.

oahnn · 26/10/2023 15:57

I have tried and it comes up as less? He only has dd so I don’t understand it

Use the CMS calculator.

In terms of nursery costs, does he have the DC any weekdays? If so he should pay for the costs on his days.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 26/10/2023 15:58

What do you mean by pension? Are you talking about spousal maintenance or child maintenance?

soxthecat22 · 26/10/2023 15:58

How many nights a week does he have her?

PosterBoy · 26/10/2023 15:59

How many nights does he have her?

Maybe go true 50:50 if he would end up paying more via 50% uniform/school dinners/childcare

oahnn · 26/10/2023 15:59

He won’t have her at all. Only sees her if I am there!

Then that’s his min legal contribution, anything above is his choice.

kittybiscuits · 26/10/2023 16:01

Then your calculations are wrong. He would be paying more than that based on his salary, no overnights and no other children.

PosterBoy · 26/10/2023 16:02

How can the online calculator be coming up with £280 on a salary of £49k and no overnights? You are doing something wrong or the numbers aren't right (or, if going via cms, yes he is stashing it into his pension)

AnneLovesGilbert · 26/10/2023 16:02

He only has to pay the minimum the calculator says. He doesn’t have to pay towards childcare. If the CMS amount is less than you’re getting I wouldn’t let him know that, he can check if he wants to.

Are you claiming childcare costs back if you’re eligible?

SlothBabyTruth · 26/10/2023 16:03

Is it spousal maintenance given in a divorce settlement? Or child support given in a divorce settlement?

Or child support given outside of that?

What are you putting in? What is his earnings after pension? As 49k before tax is 470 a month or 108 a week.

how often does he pay 280?

Sunshineclouds11 · 26/10/2023 16:05

Your estimated child maintenance calculation
£108.57 a week or £470.13 a month

This is what I'm getting on the calculator for £49k and no overnight stays

oahnn · 26/10/2023 16:06

He has always paid 280, calculator says 270 for 49k

OP posts:
oahnn · 26/10/2023 16:06

Oh I think I had used it previously with an overnight stay and it had automatically populated it!! Yes it’s saying 470 so he’s underpaying. Guess I will have to go through cms

OP posts:
bighair32 · 26/10/2023 16:10

If your ex earns 49k a year before any deductions then the CMS calculator says £470.13 a month.

This is with 0 overnight stays and 0 other children

Yes. I think you do, if she’s not staying over night, don’t bother asking him about his pension, just go via cms.

funinthesun19 · 26/10/2023 16:23

I agree it does seem low. I thought for one child it was about 10%?

Is there any possibility that if you went through cms he would leave his job or get it paid into another's account? Only saying as I'm aware of a few who have done this. My sisters ex is self employed plasterer, he also doesn't see child claims benefits that he is not working as its cash in hand or paid into his relatives account she gets 13 pounds every fortnight and he drives a relatively new BMW
