Does my Toddler hate me?

Having a nice morning until I go to the loo and in the few minutes I’m in another room he has managed to undo the child lock on the food cupboard, fling pasta around the living room and rip open all my tea bags.

How is he so fast? What have I done to deserve it? And how do I combat a MI6 level intelligence lock picker 2yo?

A very driven and determined little bean!

My mantra in these situations is "one day I will be pleased when you show these skills"

My daughter is very stubborn and driven and strong willed which will hopefully turn her to a beautiful strong willed and driven women with a touch of stubbornness and she will thrive. For now I take a deep breath smile and together we tidy up the mess

Haha OP. I'm glad this isn't a sad thread.

In the future your toddler will be a criminal mastermind and you can live the life of Riley off his ill gotten gains.

TheBirdintheCave · 26/10/2023 10:37

Eugh yes, the goblin stages. I feel for you as I'm in the trenches too. Mine will look me dead in the eye whilst holding something and I'll say 'Don't throw that please, G.' And then he'll throw it anyway 🙄

Thedogscollar · 26/10/2023 10:53

My dgc yesterday was given a bag of Pombears which he loves. He was excited to get them as I handed him the bag he looked at me as he tipped the whole bag over the kitchen floor.
You just gotta laugh and get the dustpan and brush out.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/10/2023 10:55

Don’t worry, he’ll be running MI6 in 30 odd years.

Flamingogirl08 · 26/10/2023 11:13

My toddler looked me dead in the eyes this morning as she flung her porridge across the kitchen and laughed.

She's also pulled a Tommy from Rugrats a few times and inexplicably escaped from her playpen. Always with a big cheeky smile 🤣

lillyg23 · 26/10/2023 11:15

This morning I asked my toddler if he loved mummy and he turned to me, looked me in the eye, smiled and said 'DADDY' - then ran off.

😂

greglet · 26/10/2023 11:17

I feel you! I have a 17 month old who is an absolute terror. We're still finding splodges from the bowl of dinner he lobbed across the kitchen last week.

A current favourite activity is to stand by the plug socket and attempt to 'plug in' whatever cable he can get his hands on, whilst looking straight at me and saying 'no no no no' 😄

MintJulia · 26/10/2023 11:21

Well he's certainly not lacking intelligence or confidence ! Take comfort from the fact he will cope fine with primary school.

My ds was a talented escape artist, a regular Houdini. He even managed to get himself wedged half way through the cat flap when he was toddling. 😀

takealettermsjones · 26/10/2023 11:25

Hahahahaha this brings back delightful memories 😄

I have two pieces of advice:

  1. Give them a job to do, to see if they can have it done by the time you come back. "Can you get all the red blocks into a tower by the time I'm back?" etc.
  1. Keep all Sudocrem on a very high shelf at all times. Lock it away. Put it on the roof.
TheBirdintheCave · 26/10/2023 11:26

@takealettermsjones Ohhhh I also have direct experience of not adhering to number two 😂

Our 3 year old grandchild looked me in the eyes and lied this week “oh, I wonder who scribbled on the table?” “It wasn’t me”. (I’d just stood and watched him do it).

I’m so proud of him. He’s not supposed to have the ability to do that for another year or so. 🤣

MeetyouatMidnight · 26/10/2023 11:48

These have all made me laugh, thanks so much 💙

Toddler terror now currently sleeping, probably dreaming of bank robbery!

This thread has reminded me to ask if anyone can suggest the best way to remove pencil and felt tip from paintwork please?

MamaCar · 26/10/2023 13:12

Elbow grease spray worked for me.

CC222 · 26/10/2023 14:19

I only have to turn my back for 30 seconds and my toddler will have climbed up somewhere he's not supposed to be like up on the tv unit!
They are aware at that age what they're not allowed to do but don't understand why so they will take every 30 second opportunity to cause mayhem because they're exploring the world and who the hell are we to say no 😂
After I've got him down for the 20th time that day, I just have to remind myself that I admire his new confidence in climbing. Have to focus on the positive in the midst of chaos 😂

cariadlet · 26/10/2023 14:28

I did handprints with dd when she was a toddler. Made the mistake of going to the kitchen for 2 minutes to get more water.

Came back and she had poured the bottles of paint all over herself. It took several baths to get her clean.

HiCandles · 26/10/2023 14:47

Thanks for this light-hearted thread OP. Having a bit of a tough time of it with my toddler doing similar things and you've all made me realise I need to stop taking it so personally. I feel like it's a battle of wills sometimes.
