The whole forget what i needed from fridge mid cooking scenario happens several times a day...

Often i will remember something i have to do, as i go to put a reminder in my phone i forget!

Also, the past few months ive been getting random memory flashbacks, with no explanation or context.

Do i speak to the gp?

How old are you, OP?
You sound like me! Terrible memory but random flashbacks (often of dreams) for no reason. Menopause has definitely made it a lot worse, especially the forgetfulness.

LNY1986 · 24/10/2023 23:42

Hi OP.

I was just about to type up a reply but I've already forgotten what I was going to say.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 24/10/2023 23:43

Depending on age sounds identical to peri or menopausal symptoms or stress. Post it notes are your friend and one paper diary.

Toothyfruity · 24/10/2023 23:43

It's worth going to the GP. May be hormonal like menopause or a thyroid problem.

Thelondonone · 24/10/2023 23:43

same, though but vit b12 injections and hrt have helped.

AnotherDayAnotherDream · 24/10/2023 23:45

Speak to the GP.
Memory issues can be caused by the following:

Thyroid issues
B12 deficiency
Vitamin D deficiency
Low iron
Low folate.

I’ve had all the above at different times, I know pp are making jokes but I understand how frightening it can feel. Go and speak to the GP, I’m sure they will do blood tests to rule out any underlying causes.

rockinginarockingchair · 25/10/2023 00:06

Are you me op ive got the same thing.
I`ll think of one thing and say the other or my mind just goes blank cant think brain fog.
I went to the cupboard for milk the other day. (i have a whole list)
Im thinking its peri-menopause.
Talk to the doctor ive got to ring mine in the morning.

DyslexicPoster · 25/10/2023 00:10

I'm getting worried about my memory too. I was testing myself and I can remember my childhood phone number, the prime minister, etc but I struggle with where I went yesterday. I have young kids with sen and approaching 50 so I hope mine is stress relayed. There's no harm in approaching your gp

Everythingwillbeokeventually44 · 25/10/2023 05:56

I was feeling the same, not menopause age but constantly had brain fog and was struggling to remember things. I spoke with my GP who ran some bloods, my vitamin D was extremely low and I had high iron levels. With treatment my memory is returning to normal and my low mood is slowly picking up.

Definitely speak with GP

Exactly the same here, especially the random memories popping up. I am on HRT already, also take levothyroxine for underactive thyroid. I am currently living with a great deal of stress so possibly that is the reason.

coffeeaddict77 · 25/10/2023 10:59

What do people mean by random memories popping up?

HelpNeededBeforeIHaveABreakdown · 25/10/2023 19:47

Just something pops into your head, mine have been mostly related to childhood recently.

This explains it a bit

Parakeetamol · 25/10/2023 19:49

Cognitive overload could be the reason for random forgetting, so essentially you are just trying to do too much.

BertieBotts · 25/10/2023 19:50

Do you have a carbon monoxide monitor?

This is definitely true

I've always had those. I didn't realise it was supposed to be unusual. I have a very good memory of past events anyway so it's just part of that to me.
