To start a degree before remortgaging

Putting this here more for traffic than anything else, but wondered if anyone had any answers for me. I’ve just passed my Open University access course, and I am looking to start my degree. We are due to remortgage in August. With all the uncertainty on interest rates etc I wondered if it would be unreasonable to add this extra financial burden on the family now?? For context I'm
currently not working as I have a very young baby but will be getting back to work in six months or so. My husband looks after us 100% financially at the moment and fully supports me doing the degree. We just don’t know if it will impact our remortgage application negatively if I start now, or if we should wait until after. Googled everything I can but still not getting an answer. TIA
YABU - wait until after you’ve remortgaged
YANBU- it’s fine to start now, it won’t make a difference to your remortgage.

depends? are you counting on an income from yourself on the mortgage?

student loans dont get taken into account for a mortgage

but affordability does - so if you need an income and your job(and your planning to quit!) wait. if not - go for it!

Student loans do get taken into account for your mortgage. My bank looked at how much I was paying out each month and reduced my affordability in line with it. It’s not an optional repayment after all. However it is a small amount (I currently pay around £150 from memory on a 45k+ salary) and the amount you owe isn’t asked for, they just see it as a deduction oj your wage slips

however, you aren’t making any repayments. And won’t for a minimum of 3 years. And even then only when you earn over £25k.

im a huge advocate for the OU and will always encourage people to go ahead with it. In your case it shouldn’t affect your remortgage at all.

@carly2803 When we got the mortgage I wasn’t working as I was a SAHM so I’m named on it but it’s my husband who pays for it 100%. The plan was always for me to get back to part time work when our youngest is in nursery. But again these earning would be for ‘extras’ as my husband looks after the bills on what he earns.

Thanx @ChocolateTea I loved my OU access course, finally felt like I was achieving something just for me and want to crack on with the next bit asap. The information you’ve given is very helpful.
