AIBU to ask for urgent recommendations for Chinese restaurants in Manchester China Town?

Due to a very recent bereavement last week I have totally failed to research, let alone book a restaurant for tomorrow night for my son's birthday.

We don't know Manchester China town (or Manchester come to that) at all. Recommendations for somewhere that would work with a 9 and 10 year old very gratefully received please!

Bonus thanks if you can tell me where to buy tram tickets to get to the Science and Industry museum tomorrow afternoon. We are staying at the Manchester Piccadilly Premier Inn.

We've always had lovely meals at the Little Yang Sing.

China town is pretty ropy now in the evenings, it’s a place to avoid in my opinion . The Hard Rock Cafe in the printworks is a good shout with kids . There’s also a good choice of places in the corn exchange just near the Arndale

Not Chinatown but there’s Sapporo Teppanyaki a couple of minutes walk from museum of science and industry. They cook in front of you which is entertaining for the kids.

You can get the free city bus from Piccadilly to close by,

The tram is tap in tap out but if you want to buy a day pass then download The Bee Network app. A day pass for kids (bus & tram) is around £3 and £5 for an adult if you’re just staying centrally. You can buy the day passes from the app.

Manchester City centre is quite small so very walkable.

Thanks so much. Going to look these up now

Not Chinese, but Try Thai restaurant in Chinatown serves great food, literally the best yellow chicken curry I've tasted 😋

MangosteenSoda · 24/10/2023 17:48

The best place for Cantonese Food is Happy Seasons. It’s not fancy though, more of a canteen and there’s usually a queue.

Across the road is Pho Cue which is sort of modern/fusion Vietnamese. I think kids might like that.

Chinatown is fine imo and easily walkable from where you are in Picadilly.

Little yang sing

puppygalore · 24/10/2023 17:56

Also echoing pp with Little Yang Sing, the bigger Yang Sing is also amazing and a bit fancier but more pricey. Try Thai as mentioned is also great. There's Waku Waku on Portland street which is Japanese and is good fun for insta photos depending on your DS age, but food can be hit and miss.

The tram doesn’t go close enough to MOSI to be worth it, the free bus does but it is often quicker to walk!

Auntiehero · 24/10/2023 18:01

Came to say Happy Seasons, the best Chinese food I've ever had. Dragon oriental is pretty good too.

WellThisIsFun1 · 24/10/2023 18:03

Unsure if it's in the right area for you, but I had an amazing meal at the Rice Bowl

BennyBlancofromtheBronx · 24/10/2023 18:03

Little Yang Sing was bloody awful last time I went. Happy Seasons is ace.

Tram tickets are bought at the stops, but you could walk or get the free bus PP mentioned.

Squirrelblanket · 24/10/2023 18:19

Another recommendation for Try Thai. Not Chinese but has a wide menu and it's all excellent.

littleripper · 24/10/2023 18:24

Yang Sing/little Yang sing

Lecc · 24/10/2023 18:28

Yang sing

motherofcatsandbears · 24/10/2023 18:39

Happy Seasons every time

TerribleWoman · 24/10/2023 18:42

Get a bubble tea while you are there. Kids seem to absolutely love it.

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 24/10/2023 18:48

You can walk from Piccadilly to MOSI- would be about 20-25 mins. Nearest tram stop is Deansgate/ Castlefield- still a 5 minute walk but bonus is that you can explore Roman ruins on the way. Adults can tap in and out at the tram stops. Kids tickets you can buy at the machines at the tram stops - there is a family ticket option which is good value. Or as pp says there is the free city centre bus

Sweet Mandarin in the Northern Quarter is lovely, as pps have mentioned China town is not what it was.

Bichonmum · 24/10/2023 19:31

We went to Home Chinese on Chorlton street on Saturday night and had a lovely meal.

Also agree that Sweet Mandarin in the Northern Quarter is lovely.
