Ok, I know many many like to laze in PJs, that’s fine! It’s not really working for me.
I find it a low time of year, everyone is off and I find it all dark. I’d quite like to start a new family tradition of going somewhere, other that shopping. Either a day trip, or maybe a few days away.
If you aren’t a stay in family, why do you get up to Christmas to new year? Inspire me please!

If the sun's out, we go to the beach (we live in Devon). It's pretty popular though! There's a few places were there's a tradition for a mass Boxing Day/New Year's Day swim, but not for me 😁

Travelling a bit further afield to a nice park (usually one of the kids will have a new bike, scooter or other outdoor toy)
Going into the city one day for a general mooch around (not boxing day!
Board game day (we usually go all 80s and have a cheese fondue with all the leftover cheeses 😅)

Boxing Day is traditionally a big day for sporting fixtures. Which sports do you enjoy ? (Remember this can be local teams, doesn't have to be expensive).

We will sometimes go out for a family walk, or even hike. "Shake down the Turkey Hike" has been a tradition in many a Scout Group a couple of days after Christmas too. But you could arrange it with whoever you like to spend time with - dc are generally more willing to come if there are a group of families, not just Mum, Dad and the dc.

We usually have a meet up / buffet / present exchange with whichever family part we've not seen at Christmas.

It's usually a good time to see people you want to spend time with and don't get round to.

We always do Boxing Day panto. Tradition in our family for years and no it’s one huge family day out with all kids and grandkids and extended families. Love it!

Our traditions depend on the weather.
Bad weather : shopping or cinema, good weather: walk or ice skating

We go on a Boxing Day walk before lunch, and then from 1pm we host a party for the extended family. We spend Christmas Day with immediate family, and then on Boxing Day, the cousins, aunts and uncles etc., all get together. (Each family takes it in turns to host each year).

Everyone brings leftovers and other bits and pieces and we have a big cold buffet. You wear on your new outfit/jumper/socks from the day before. More crackers, paper hats, games, food and drinks.

I'm the same as @TheSmallAssassin - also in Devon, also go to the beach. Last year went to Exmouth for some 'fresh air' and ended up watching power boat racing!

Other members of my extended family like to go to the Boxing Day hunt meet. (They are very horsey)

Come to mine Boxing Day, it's my birthday and it's shit!

It is our one day of the year we genuinely do spend in our pyjamas reading new books, candles lit, blankets everywhere and eating leftovers in toasted sandwiches with endless tea.

However, the kind of thing you seem to be looking for is how we start each new year.
We have gone away the 3rd to the 5th every year (excluding lockdown) since nice the DC were babies.
Over the years we have done a mix of luxury hotels, Airbnb, cottages and premier inns - often great deals to be had. A few trips -
*Aviemore (hotel, pool, see bears, visit huskies)
*Durham (walk around cathedral, Beamish for the day)
*London (theatre trip and sales)
*Loch lomond (hotel pool/spa, fairy trail)
*Chester (one day city, one Cheshire oaks)
*Edinburgh (museum, shopping, theatre trip)

This year we are booked for London - Hamilton tickets, endless walking and coffee stops plus some sales shopping.
