Russell Brand - what’s happened?

Is it just me or was the Russell Brand story in every newspaper 24/7 a few weeks ago. It’s now not being mentioned at all and there’s complete radio silence. What could have caused this? Could the media have been silenced? Why would this happen, is it a legal thing? Just wondering.

I think after Katherine Ryan’s comments on Louis Thereoux about there being a sexual predator on the comedy circuit, plus the other rumours about him it wasn’t a massive surprise to most people I have spoken to about this

I still think the Abercrombie and Fitch doc on Panorama was a last minute switch for something that got stopped at the last minute.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - appalled to say I warmed to him over the years and went to one of his comedy gigs (the messiah tour if memory serves) and latterly enjoyed some of his podcast interviews, called ‘Under the Skin’, with some incredibly interesting, wise people. I wonder what they make of him now!

He makes me sick now that I know that part of him.

Anyway, OP it's the usual 3 minutes of hot news, then off with other things. I also think there's not been a significant update in the investigation yet so more "interesting" news take over until there's one.

Innocent until proven guilty is about what happens in court. Outside court we can have ideas and talk about stuff as long as we don’t commit libel - allegedly.

I wondered this about Schofield and Huw Edwards too, but wonder if, following deaths of people who have been hounded by the media, and who take their own lives, ie Caroline Flack, that the Press are told to tone it down and back off a bit. Both Philip Schofield and Huw Edwards were reported to have been suicidal following the revelations.

Funnily enough, I was wondering this today.

It's because there is nothing new to report. Brand's behaviour was vile, but not necessarily criminal under the current law. There may be investigations pending about that (meaning the truth of consent), but papers wouldn't be able to report unless the police take action. The hit to Brand so far is reputational and financial. But there is no conflict on the facts (he basically says, "...yes I did these things - it was part of my schtick at the time, and (the contentious bit) the women were all willing participants in my youthful debauchery"). It wasn't ever hidden, it's just that the journalists did a good job of presenting their evidence in one hit and inviting the public to reappraise their long held views of the man as a lovable cheeky chappy with a sex positive outlook. He is/was a predator who used his good luck, good looks, charm and fame to seduce basic consent from women, and then used that basic consent as cover to coerce extreme sex acts from his inappropriate relationships. The one that sticks out for me is him (aged 31) sending cars to collect a 16 year old from school (so Year 11, GCSE year), so he could penetrate her mouth with his penis "to make her mascara run". Sorry for the graphic description, but he deserves every misfortune that now befalls on him and hopefully his wife will LTB with their kids (daughters!).

Exactly this! How insulting it would be to talk about that sleaze ball when there are these atrocities happening

Why would we still be talking about him? What more is there to say on the topic?
