If you asked your partner…

if they met someone else that they liked and liked the look of, and they liked them back - would they leave you?

and their response was erm… I don’t think so

would that be a good enough answer? Or would you expect an instant no because I love you etc?

few issues recently and felt a bit insecure which led to asking the question.

So you're game playing? Using the insecure card doesn't count

BlueEyedPeanut · 22/10/2023 11:35

As someone who values honesty, I would appreciate his considered answer more than a trite "of course not, you're my soulmate, luv yoooou" BS one.

MorningWorkoutOrSleep · 22/10/2023 11:48

If my partner asked me that I'd give a sarcastic/funny reply because it's a ridiculous question.

If your partner doesn't make you feel secure by how he acts, get rid of him. When you start needing to ask questions like this, I think the relationship is doomed.

MorningWorkoutOrSleep · 22/10/2023 11:49

For clarity, my partner wouldn't ask that. Neither would I.

Frasers · 22/10/2023 11:52

I’m not sure you can make him responsible for your insecurity unless he is responsible for it and a back story?

if my husband asked me that I’d feel him quite needy and at best respond the same as your partner did at worse say yes if he didn’t ask daft questions like that. Needy isn’t attractive.

Itsbritneybitch22 · 22/10/2023 11:57

Was you trying to set him up with someone more suitable 😂

I mean ask silly questions you get silly answers.

Nicole1111 · 22/10/2023 11:58

If he’d given me very valid reasons to be insecure (infidelity etc) then I’d expect an instant no.
If not I wouldn’t think much of it and I’d be arranging to do some work around my self esteem

LemonLight · 22/10/2023 12:01

It's absolutely toxic of you to ask your partner that question.

If he’d been unfaithful you’d not need to ask that question as you’d know, as he was still there. As he would have already evidently met someone he liked who liked him back and not left. I don’t think anyone cheated on would ask that,

Totaly · 22/10/2023 12:18

Would you ask your friends that question? If not why would you ask a partner?

Ffsnotaconference · 22/10/2023 12:23

If I asked dp that he would, rightly, tell me he isn’t playing stupid games.

Like I would tell him.

Even if the response was ‘of course I would never leave you’ you would probably be upset that he didn’t say he would never be attracted to someone elses

When people ask these questions there’s no way to get it right. I find it quite abusive

londonguild · 22/10/2023 12:38

I'm not sure what's the point in asking hypothetical questions!

merryhouse · 22/10/2023 13:14

The response is one of befuddlement at the question, not uncertainty as to the answer.

BrightGreenMoonBuggy · 22/10/2023 13:32

You say ‘like the look of’ and ‘leave’ as if people just leave relationships after looking at someone attractive for five seconds. It’s a ridiculous, simplistic question tbh. How vehemently do you expect him to deny that he’d do such a plainly ridiculous thing? He’s probably thinking ‘er…no’ because it’s an ‘er…no’ type of question.

Cas112 · 22/10/2023 13:34

It is a stupid question and tbh it's the type of stupid questions I always ask but I know my partner would reply with a hard no

I know people who’ve been cheated on that need reassurance and ask questions like this. I guess everyone is different and you can’t assume everyone is the same

Universalsnail · 22/10/2023 19:27

Asking this question is a rediculous thing to do. It's just bateing someone into upsetting you. How does he know. He's never met this person. He can't give you an honest answer. Don't ask questions like this.
