I'm off to Budapest for the weekend in mid November. No idea why....just booked it now randomly!! For those of you who have been please tell me what I can do / where I can eat and drink?or anything else you think might be useful for me to know! I'm staying in the pest area. Thank you 😊

You have to go to one of the spas, one the top highlights of my inter rail trip

Potplant19 · 21/10/2023 19:24

The outdoor baths are lovely, well worth a trip but takes a whole afternoon or morning. We went over a decade ago and went caving under the city which was pretty cool, but I was much younger then!

If you're up for a drink the ruin bars are worth a visit. It's also got a fascinating history so a museum or two worth a trip.

The metro is a great way to get around. Enjoy!

Went to castle and town walls, ate goulash in a little restaurant near the Hilton.

Book a night riverboat trip.
Visit the synagogue

Popetthetreehugger · 21/10/2023 19:28

Another vote for the spas , make sure you see the shoes by the parliament building .

ChicoryDip · 21/10/2023 19:29

Szechenyi baths, visit the castle, walk along the river to see the shoes on the banks of the Danube, visit the Central Market Hall for food, get the funicular to Castle Hill, evening river cruise...

Love Budapest, great city, easy to walk around and plenty of good bars and restaurants.

Yes, don’t forget the shoes

Aworldofmyown · 21/10/2023 19:34

Ruin bars, Szechenyi Baths, Shoes on the danube, Statue of liberty, St Stephen Basilica Royal Palace. It's a beautiful city.

Creepybookworm · 21/10/2023 19:42

If you are very interested in history there is a nuclear bunker you can visit and the Museum of Terror. The latter is very interesting.

WhiteHorse92 · 21/10/2023 19:45

I don't think anyone else has mentioned it so I'm going to suggest Fisherman's Bastion if you want somewhere to wander around. If you're into interesting but well made cocktails I definitely recommend TukTuk bar.

pumpykins · 21/10/2023 19:46

ErikaReadsTheDailyMail · 21/10/2023 19:58

Gallery Spa is incredible
Szimpla Kert ruin bar is also amazing and unique
The Terror Museum is very powerful too

I'm jealous!

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 21/10/2023 19:59

The castle, Fisherman's Bastion, Parliament, shoes by the Danube, St Stephen's Basilica, St Margaret's Island, Zugliget Chairlift to Buda Hills, Children's railway, one of the fabulous spas, ruin bars.... honestly so much. You could never do it all in a weekend. I went for a week, walked my legs off and still need to go back. Wonderful place.

edwinbear · 21/10/2023 19:59

Margaret Island is beautiful, so peaceful & tranquil.

milkydress · 21/10/2023 20:00

Lovely suggestions here! Is there any particular baths I should go to or are they all similar?
I also a bit worried as I am not white and have been told that I need to be a bit cautious as its not an ethnically diverse city / country so I will stick out 😟

Go to Hungarikum Bisztró for some delicious food! Very authentic and cozy atmosphere. ✨️

irw · 21/10/2023 20:08

Szechenyi baths is beautiful and has a huge outside area, Gellert baths has more indoor pools and a smaller outside area. I think in November you'd get more for your money at Gellert. Make sure you bring your own flip flops and towel, you need them to get in!

I'd also recommend a waking tour, if you download the GuruWalk app you can find one based on your interests (WW2/street art/castle).

Be sure to try some Hungarian food as well, langos and chimney cake are delicious!

Enjoy your trip!
