Positive stories of mams expressing day 1

Posting on here for traffic and can't find where chat is on topics.

Feeling like 💩 lots of pain with my PGP so would like some positive breastfeeding stories of mamas who pumped from day 1. I did post in pregnancy but only got a few commenting which I appreciate but want to know more 😊

I know the risks and willing to still do it. Dad wants to do nights and will be pumping once between 2am and 4am as that's when you produce the most milk. I'll still be breastfeeding during the day and pump on the other boob.

Tia

You do realise you just look like a tit coming on my thread to post that...

A hands free pump won't be strong enough to induce lactation

One mam commented and said she used it when she was out and about. I won't be using it to start of with. Can keep it on one boob while my daughter feeds off the other.

Hi Op, haven't RTFT but I did this out of choice, I don't know why others are so invested in telling you your choice is wrong.

It worked really well for me. I hired a hospital grade pump for main use and had an elvie double in case I needed to pump on a long car journey, in the airport etc.

Big bonus is DH could always feed the baby. In my opinion if you want to do shared parental leave this is kind of essential, otherwise mum ends up doing all the nights and planning her work hours around feeds whilst still expected to be productive at work.

I know right. Seem to think it's not going to work or I'm making it harder for myself. I'm glad it worked for you 😌 he really wants to help and that's another thing. Dad's can't win on here. They get slated for not helping or wanting to help. Thank you for your experience. X

If you pump before your supply is established it will fuck everything up. You’ll over-supply then likely under.

I pumped from a few weeks in so that dad could do the night feeds and it worked well. But not before my supply was established and settled. You’d be better off doing some formula for the night bottle

I won't be adding formula. If my milk comes in on the 3rd day like my son won't be a problem.. I can use a syringe to get colostrum but will attempt pump first. Some have manged it. So guess we will see.

I hope it works out for you. I fed three DC this way til I was ready to switch to formula (7, 8 and 12 months respectively). I always preferred that their dad could be fully responsible and also didn't want to feel trapped by being always on hand for BF.

Remember you don't have to wash and sterilise pump parts every time, you can keep the in the fridge for a few hours. I'd also recommend getting a couple of sets of the parts you need to clean so you can just bung them in the dishwasher once a day.

People are talking about their own experiences of expressing. If it's not as absolutely positive as the OP is asking for, well, that's just what other women have experienced.

Read that wrong, tired. Not necessarily. From what others have said its mostly been fine. So will give it a go. I want its to be 100% breastmilk. I used formula with my son for a short time with tongue tie

Our toddler. I couldn’t handle things with him properly because I was tied to the pump. (I understand they have much more modern equipment now; this was 9+ years ago

Yes, there are two in bra pump/collectors called Elvie and Willow last time I was reading about this.

And there are in bra collectors called Freemie that can be used with a number of pumps, one or two of which would be very portable. There's a small portable one that works with them.

One of the top two needs bags ... Which are expensive, but the other doesn't, it just has containers.

And I'm grateful for their experiences . But I will be pumping from the get go.

I've found a hands free on amazon thinking of getting. Not badly priced and good reviews. Had a few recommended the Elvie will look into that too

Spectra double pump, the portable one.

Yeah I didn't pump much but I did research and got a Spectra S3 I think off eBay and it seemed like a great pump. Quite relaxing noise too.

My fiend pumped from the get go for both of hers for the first 6 ish months purely through choice. She said herself she couldn’t cope with the perceived unpredictability and the idea of comfort nursing that came with directly breastfeeding but wanted them to have breast milk.

It was manageable with her first but extremely hard with her second. She didn’t leave the house very much for the first couple of months between pumping, sterilising equipment and then feeding. It got easier as the DC got older. As others have said, she still had to get up a few times per night in the early days to pump which was actually harder on her sleep compared to directly feeding. Her DC sometimes had to be left to cry when she was attached to a pump. She slept trained very early to get them into a routine partly to allow her to pump. They are nice kids now though and she’s happy with her choices which I guess that is what matters.
