Civil service AIBU

One for the civil servants out there!

I have been a SEO for 3 months. Just found the G7 equivalent of my role in another area come up.

Already in role I have G7 exposure - on a day to day basis, I am my G7 in my lead area which includes weekly meetings with SCS, G6. G7s are my peer group as my G7 focuses on other lead areas and doesn’t touch it. I have been on TDA on occasion too. I have experience of the essential criteria already and could apply.

I’m not sure how much staying in my current role to repeat these responsibilities would propel my career forward? A lot of my role encompasses what I’ve done previously, any skills I would gain in this role are the same as my old job so feel stagnant staying in place.

So aibu to already be considering my next step so early in new role? I want a job that fits me, whether it’s a level transfer or promotion, and I feel like I’m in a stop gap job atm

Interesting. I've literally never heard of it happening before.

Maybe it's just not a policy thing to do

Another one who is impressed with your depts TDA approach! We just have to do it 😩

@HamstersAreMyLife

Maybe we should start a civil service wide campaign.

Totally not the point but I’m not a civil servant so I love reading all the acronyms as they are totally different in my life. Good luck with the Search Engine Optimisation. I love how many Ta Daaaaa’s work for government 🤣

Good luck with your career OP.

😀 thank you! SEO is the grade (senior executive officer). TeeDeeA is an additional payment for temporarily covering the work of the grade above.

TDA is common in my department across areas, not sure about policy though! In other fields, people at different grades may have more distinct work and responsibilities where full TDA is required. In policy I assume everyone across grades might contribute to the same paper? Sometimes a manager might decide no one needs to significantly change their usual responsibilities to cover their work whilst away, so no needs TDA.
