Oh right, hopefully you've got good treatment and on the mend?

i've had it a couple of times...that cough is waay deep and sort of hurts your back. Take care after recovery too xx

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 25/11/2023 01:58

What a relief that must be for you! Glad you're ok and the pneumonia is now goneFlowers

Fraaahnces · 25/11/2023 01:58

It says that they’re going to check for thyroid cancer. Even if you do have it, it’s very treatable and has a low mortality rate.

Ohthatsfabulousdarling · 25/11/2023 02:31

How are you feeling? I've heard that it can take months to recover from pneumonia.

sunflowers365 · 25/11/2023 03:03

I understand how that letter would panic you. I feel someone should have called you or given you a face to face appointment to help you feel calmer. Like everyone has said, you just have to wait to see what the outcome is and it’s not necessarily the worst. I think there is a helpline from some cancer charities that can support you through the two week wait anxiety. I feel for you as I would be anxious too. It is not necessarily going to be the worst outcome you fear. Take care xx

PeopleAreWeird · 25/11/2023 03:30

I know it sounds scary but better this fast tracked than waiting a year

NigelHarmansNewWife · 25/11/2023 04:02

At least read the OP's posts people - she had pneumonia.

I hope you're feeling much better now.

PeopleAreWeird · 25/11/2023 04:08

To be fair - She didnt say the symptoms in the beginning turned out to be pneumonia

That seemed to be an update on when she developed a cough / choking

user1492757084 · 25/11/2023 04:45

You will probably be fine.
They always rule out the nastiest things first.

There is no down side to losing weight when you are over weight though. You could help your prospects of coping with any disease if you move slowly to a healthier weight.

Zonder · 25/11/2023 06:28

Good it's not cancer. Hope you're recovering well.

supersop60 · 25/11/2023 06:46

Hope you are feeling better now, OP

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 25/11/2023 06:51

Great to see the update OP! Hope you're on the mend very soon

LakieLady · 25/11/2023 07:12

Wow! Even though pneumonia is bloody awful, you must be so relieved.

I'm really pleased for you.

Littlemissmagnet · 25/11/2023 07:37

I am sorry the first thing you heard was two weeks' wait refferal. No explanation from the G.P. I agree with the above poster that the G.P. had a think after and thought "oh had better cover all the bases." Did the two week referral, but then didn't tell you that. Hence, your panic. It's down to communication.
It's a symptom of the G.P. being overworked and 10 min appointments simply doesn't work for everyone.
However, it's the best they can do and what the NHS have. I would call the surgery and make sure you tell them that the communication needed to be better. Ask them to make a change that a referral to a 2ww ensures a conversation with the patient as standard, then the panic you felt may not happen again.

I wish you the very best and good health. XFlowers

FrustratedCustom · 25/11/2023 07:41

It’s far more likely to due to reflux or anxiety OP.

Oops missed the update. A relief!

I just read it was pneumonia. Hope you are improving and getting stronger. I still think it is worth ringing and asking to speak to the manager about their communication. It might help someone else in the future.

I read a statistic once that might be reassuring - can't find a damn source though!

They expect only 30% of all 2WW referrals to be actually be cancer - so 70% something else entirely. Hopefully just the GP being cautious as they should be.

Just wanted to reply to this, because I don't want anyone to see this and worry! It's more like 2-3%. It does vary a bit with speciality, but much much lower than 30%, thankfully.

Yalta · 25/11/2023 08:30

A friend who worked for the WHO said the biggest red flag for cancer is extreme weight loss. I take comfort from this when I am trying to diet!

That is only when the cancer has been there for a while

Dh went to bed one night looking like the 15 stone guy he was and woke up the next morning looking gaunt

Yalta · 25/11/2023 08:31

I have had similar symptoms, I ended up avoiding the trigger foods and it cleared up itself

Yalta · 25/11/2023 08:35

Just be careful of the Omeprazole and long term use.

Probably not too useful for OP's pneumonia though.

This one worries me, having been on Omeprazole for over two years now. I have a slight hernia and Barrett's oesophagus, so I really need something that stops the reflux, but I'm aware of the dangers of Omeprazole. Is there an alternative?

Crinkle77 · 25/11/2023 08:46

Try not to worry OP. I was referred under the 2 week pathway for gastric issues and the nurse said they did it that way otherwise I'd be waiting 50 weeks.

PinkPanther50 · 25/11/2023 08:52

Hope you’re on the mend now

MrsDotCotton · 25/11/2023 09:06

Sometimes a doctor will put you on the 2 week if they know you are particularly anxious about something.
