Neighbours asking me to “cat sit”

Neighbours a few doors down have asked me to feed their cat whilst they’re away. Not really put out by this happy to help although don’t have any pets of my own. Anyway they’ve gone for a week and it transpired last night when they came to drop the food off that the cat will be outside the whole week and they want me to feed it outside? They don’t have a cat flap and the cat has no access to the house.

I was to shocked to say anything last night but went looking for the cat when this awful weather started and found it crying at the door of its home to be let in. I’ve managed to coax it to mine.

is this reportable or am I out of touch and this is fine for cats?

That’s an awful thing to say! Same “puddle” may contain antifreeze which will kill the cat. For goodness sake grow up and find some compassion

Well I think we have a cat now. It’s quite funny she seems to wait for them to leave for work and then trots over to us to be let in. We are the mistress!

Perfect outcome, enjoy your new pet.

Or should I say, welcome to the ranks of human slaves to our feline masters!

That's lovely but also really sad, presumably they chuck it outside when they go to work then 😔

My old white cat years ago got very sick from drinking antifreeze in a NDN garage which had a faulty door and mice were in there. It must’ve spilled and cats can’t resist it. I took him to the vet and he was treated but I think long term it affected his liver or other organs.

Merryoldgoat · 24/10/2023 10:16

I was just about to ask what @Legendairy did - they lock the cat out all day? That’s just not ok.

Honestly sounds like the best outcome. I don’t understand how people can mistreat animals.

bombastix · 24/10/2023 10:42

Cats are just so very good at finding the right people for them. It explains their success.

So these lowlifes are back from their holiday? And still throwing her out?

Any chance of making her an indoor cat? She'll live a safer and longer life that way.

At any rate I hope she makes the switch and doesn't bother going back to those toe-rags at all.

Grin

I'm so glad she's got some humans she can rely on.

Love this. I hope kitty migrates to yours permanently. You're fond of him now aren't you???

Clever cat!! 😎

You're doing a good thing - enjoy her company 😻

I did this exact same thing- poor little one was only about 5 months and being left outside crying in the rain.

I made him a house cat as I don't agree with them going out anyway, because they have no road sense, and/or they disappear.

Two or three years later and he's a big long cat :)
