Does anyone have an arrangement like this at work?

I am wondering if I could work 9-4, then and 7 to 8:30, so that I can drop dd at nursery and collect her for bedtime routine etc. I know I basically need to propose this to work but I just wondered if this is common? I have an office job mostly working from home and I have no involvement from DD’s dad except on Sundays. I’d prefer not to be collecting her from nursery when it’s dark at 6pm as she’s only 10 months.

I'd try and get them to be flexible with the evening hours so if she's not asleep by 7 you're not stressing too much so just a 1-2 hours after 7 pm to make it up to 8 hours kinda thing

It’s quite common. Do ask them.

If you're mainly working from home though, if you do 9-5 why would you have to pick up at 6? Would 8:30 -4:30 be a possibility? I only ask because whilst I often work in the evening I do find that I like the working day to be finished and wouldn't want to have to go back to work every evening. Also, it might be feasible when your DC is reliably in bed by 7 but I've found that bedtime can be less reliable as they get older.

Obviously it depends on your role but I wouldn’t have a problem with this in principle.

If your employer will allow it then do whatever you need to do that works for your family. Dont worry about anyone else and what they're doing or saying. I work 8-4 with an hour lunch break but I basically use my lunch to do the school runs. So 20 mins in a morning for drop off, 20 for afternoon pick up, and just have a 20 min lunch midday. Im lucky I have a very understanding manager who just lets me do what I need to do as long as my hours are done. I didnt have to request flexible working because im still working my shift hours, your employer might be more formal and ask you to request it but im sure it would be accepted. Its not an unreasonable request

What time does nursery open? And how far is it from home?

I would suggest doing 8-4 or 8:30-4:30
logging in again the evening every evening could become a slog. Or can you not ask to do 9-5 and have 30 min lunch that’s what I do.
