Phenomenal appetite and crippling exhaustion

Is there something genuinely wrong with me or am I being unreasonable to think that?
I never ate until one pm and then ate during an eight hour window.
Now I start eating at tenam and genuinely cannot stop until two pm.
This morning I had a huge bowl 🍲 f protein yoghurt, granola, thawed mixed Berries. I had a mug of tea with two chic digestives straight after.
An hour later I had a big bowl of beef chilli andthree mini donuts as well as another three choc digestives. I've also hadthree sticks of celery with lots of hummus .
This is a huge amount of food.
Drinks... three mugs of tea and two coffees.
I feel voraciously hungry but I may not eat again after this until tomorrow.
Can some expert or experienced person please tell me what the hell is going on ????
Also I could sleep for hours and hours on end.
I yawn sporadically throughout the day..'I've really cut back on wine recently if thats any indication about what's going on ? No new meds, no changes in meds...
Please advise.

I would get your blood glucose levels checked, increased appetite and extreme exhaustion (which comes from the high uncontrolled blood sugar) can be signs of diabetes

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 19/10/2023 13:55

I'd speak to your GP, could be a thyroid issue?

I have hyperthyroidism and have days where I eat like a horse and days where I can barely stay awake (and some days both!)

butbetter · 19/10/2023 14:11

I've just read up on hyperthyroidism and the exact list of symptoms sound exactly what I've been experiencing .
Muscle weakness, extreme tiredness , voracious appetite,
I also have a swelling at the left side of my
Neck just under my left ear so maybe there is some issue with goitre ., no weight loss though but def utterly red palmed and jittery...

You need blood tests done. Diabetes and/or thyroid seem most likely. Stay off the wine in the meantime, it's going to make anything worse.

me too! It is vile. Is yours caused by Grave's? I have had it under control for 5 years but being tested again atm. Shaky hands, weight loss, poor sleep. And now have conjunctivitis on top of all that.

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 19/10/2023 14:56

@Mariposista yes mine's graves. It relapsed every time I've had a baby (again recently) and caused 2 miscarriages :(

It's a bloody pain. On tablets at the mo because I don't want definitive treatment just yet but some days are so hard. Today is one of those days. I just want to sleep. Yesterday I couldn't stop eating 🤦🏽‍♀️

DelilahBucket · 19/10/2023 14:56

Stop eating sugary things. Seriously, it will be having a huge impact on your energy and hunger, causing you to crave it more. Cutting down significantly on alcohol can cause fatigue. Mine passed after a couple of weeks.

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 19/10/2023 14:57

Unfortunately I'm not getting the weight loss - that's a symptom I wouldn't mind having..!

Anabella321 · 19/10/2023 15:00

Yes as others have said it sounds like hyperthyroidism which is a serious illness. Much more serious than hypothyroidism.

Get bloods done ASAP.

Blueskiesforecast · 19/10/2023 15:10

You should read Dr Mindy’s guide on intermittent fasting for women. She suggests fasting according to your cycle, to avoid interfering with hormones which could cause this hunger. It is also a normal side effect of drinking less though. You could also be missing something in your diet(vitamins)- easy to check with a blood test

butbetter · 19/10/2023 15:23

I love intermittent fasting and had no issu or appetite before eleven or twelve . Now I have all my usual intake taken before then with exhaustion and muscle weakness

I have kept it at bay for over 5 years. I haven't had any children yet but mine seems to come in moments of extreme stress. The first was a new job/house move/ separation all at once, and this most recent my gran's death 6 months ago. It is a weird condition, but not pleasant. Not sure if or how it will affect me pregnant - the GP said it sometimes does and sometimes doesn't.

PenOfTentacles · 19/10/2023 16:09

This sounds so much like my experience of Grave’s disease. Obviously I hope it isn’t but you should get checked out as it can have unfortunate consequences if left untreated - such as emboli >>> stroke.
