£30 - surely no longer enough for work expenses and Xmas party!

For those in corporate roles where you can claim expenses…what are you company policy amounts for an evening meal when working away? Our £30 allowance feels so mean, and it’s the same amount for Christmas party! I mean what do you get for that nowadays??? Especially if we were to meet in London?

also why is the personal car payment still £0.45ppm - I am pretty sure it was that 10 maybe even 15/20 years ago!

inflation has not caught up surely…?

Is this commonplace?

Imagine the outrage of student tuition fees being spent on alcohol and Christmas parties for staff.........

My brother (director of private-sector company) expressed amazement that we don't get tea & coffee provided. I pointed out that he had three kids who had gone through university and asked how he would feel about any of their tuition fees being spent on tea & coffee for university staff.

Mind you, he was also amazed that we don't get paid bonuses. He asked what we get if we meet our performance targets. I replied that we get to keep our jobs.

This. Doesn't matter how good we are at our job, there's no financial recompense..... (once you're at the top of your grade.)

We pay our lads £20 a night. We pay for the digs. Our Christmas party night is all paid for though! 🍹

We get £25 overnight as someone else mentioned that's the limit for tax free. If we stay at premier Inn they'll do the meal deal, although I never want to eat there as I think they're overpriced. We can just claim the amount though without showing receipts so can get what we want. Sometimes I eat out, often just get something to eat in the room.

Christmas party though we're having a 3 course sit down meal with wine, tea/coffee drinks and drinks afterwards and don't have to pay anything towards it.

We had a team building day recently and that was the same brunch/evening meal/activities/accomodation and all drinks paid for the day.

On the Christmas party issue, I looked at my department lunch menu today and it is 3 courses for £55 a head (in London). I assume drinks are on top.

And to the poster who doesn't think 1850 calories are enough, they are. And if you have a hotel breakfast you can fill up at that, you don't need a cooked breakfast if that isn't your thing but there is usually yogurt and fruit as well as cereal and toast.

Years ago we had a very tight-fisted budget for hotels at one of my jobs so after staying at a particularly grotty Travelodge I used to stay at B&Bs after that.

Is this lloyds bank!

CEO charlie nunn gets millions and £1.5m sign on while staff get no bonus and £30 for xmas despite billions of profits

Mumto2kids86 · 21/10/2023 16:46

Our was £5 then went up to £10! I wouldn’t be moaning at £30. Most set menus are around that price. Feel for those who have lost their jobs this year!

yorkie18 · 21/10/2023 20:23

The 45ppm is set by HMRC. Yes it is ridiculous it hasn't gone up yet, but it's not your companies fault. If they put it up, you'll be paying tax on anything over 45p

purplehair1 · 22/10/2023 08:30

Our per diems for an evening meal is £15 - you’re pretty lucky!
