To want home insurance and contents covered?

DH says it's not necessary and it's just a money making scheme.

I always thought it was very standard and normal to have home insurance and contents covered.

We don't actually have very expensive stuff in terms of contents eg. Our electronics are not that fancy but for example I'd like my engagement ring covered etc

Friends of ours had a devastating house fire which ripped through their listed home.

Insurance paid for the house to be renovated (basically rebuilt), replaced the contents and paid for them to be in rented accommodation for the 2 years it took to make it habitable again - bearing in mind this is in the Cotswolds so the monthly rent was over £2500!

I think it was more than worth paying the insurance premiums!

Buildings insurance is a must.

Contents wise, it depends. We never had it in our old home because we didn’t have anything of value really - all our furniture was upcycled second hand stuff, we had separate gadget insurance through a bank account, and we don’t buy expensive clothes and live quite minimally in terms of number of items.

Now that we have moved we have bought new expensive furniture and it’s all insured.

If you have old/cheap furniture it’s not always worth insuring as sometimes insurance covers the current market value of things, therefore you probably couldn’t replace them. That’s why we never bothered - we were only making do with the furniture until after we moved and got nice stuff. I think our most expensive item was a £80 ikea unit 😂

Not overly bright is he??
Of course you need buildings and contents insurance for the full amount
You can have issues if you try and claim and it's found that you are under insured

We rent but our contents insurance is only about £60 a year. I cant remember what the value is l think maybe up to £50k. It a definaltly worth it for peace of mind in case the place burns down.
Just take out the insurance.
