Friend of mine who rents from a HA has had a letter from a fire safety company saying they want to inspect the front doors of the flats to make sure they are fire safety compliant. No problem
However the letter says that if you miss 3 appointments you will be charged for them.

BUT the first appointment is anytime between Monday and Wednesday.

If you are going to threaten to charge people for missed appointments then at least make a proper appointment to begin with.

I had this myself from a different FS company in early 2019 Except they wanted to call between Monday and Friday (an ALL WEEK call) an appointment.
Ridiculous and a bit controlling.

Social Housing Tenant here.

When I moved in 7 years ago they said they were going to change the bathroom as it was over 20 years old.

7 years on, still no new bathroom. But they sent the company around last summer to take measurements etc. The surveyor than said I'd have to provide access to my flat for 6 weeks to complete the work, with no actual appointments within that time, just 6 weeks someone needed to be home between 8-6.

I'm a single woman working a full time job. I said it would not be possible and her reply was that I should be grateful to be getting a free bathroom. Hardly free when I pay full rent and have done for the last 7 years and still no fucking new bathroom.

Reply and ask for a specific appointed as you will need to book time off work to accommodate date

@AlwaysPrettyOnTheInside Nope Spoke to him this afternoon

The letter says. "Due to the scope of the works and the size of the survey we will not be able to give a date or time"

Due to the nature of my life, I will not be able to guarantee I'll be in my house for 3 full days.

Stuff like that drives me bonkers...

My H/A is similar, but usually if I call whatever company is doing the work and explain I need to be out at certain times, they're quite reasonable about trying to arrange a time slot.

@ToBeOrNotToBee Sounds like these HAs looked at the Covid lockdowns and thought ooh this looks like a good way to do things.

I have a sneaking suspicion that SH tenants are a group being used to provide an income stream for others and to keep people in work for longer hence it taking 6 weeks. Our roof took 13 weeks

This is ridiculous. People have to work or have things to do. God you could even be in the shower or ill in bed and miss someone knocking.

They need to be specific with days and times.

I would complain to the HA. Some vulnerable people would find this quite threatening.

They cant order people to be at home, some of us have to work! Not a chance I could get time off for something like that

Complain and copy to your MP.

I was told my front door (fire door) needed replacing in the first week we moved in. I was informed this by the guy who turned up to do the work! I couldn't stay home all day as had kids to pick up and he refused to start the job. I never saw or heard anything about it again Confused

Nearly 10 years ago now, so it can't have even been necessary!
